    That's how linear MMO's work.
WOW hasn't done a sweeping nerf to a raid since the first tier in Cataclysm, after that they used a echo style nerf then stopped it altogether after dragonsoul, they relied on gear upgrading to do this and left the encounters in tact with no % modifiers yet plenty people still raid the hard modes, the biggest difference is I find there is more resources and more willing players to use the resources to improve their ability in raiding content.
Theres also more players that are willing and hunt for groups that are recruiting or make their own groups.

    Wut?!?

Oh please kid. I grew up playing video games on the Atari 2600 and Commodore 64. I was there in the infancy of video games. Rest assured, video games were not for "people who have the time to play and put effort in advancing(sic)." They were, and are, for fun. Nothing more. This has to be the most asinine statement I've seen on these forums yet.

This is why I step down from raiding and enjoy the game like I want. If I want to do FCOB, I just wait for the dev remove the restrict and go for DF. DF players ragged because I don't know the fight? Deal with it.

    That's interesting.
I have no idea how progression in WoW goes as I stopped playing after Vanilla (even then I didn't get very far). Is it about as linear as this game is going? Story progression for unlocking most content with side content for gear progression? Would a new player have to start out from the beginning and go through each storyline to get to the latest one? Has certain old content become irrelevant?

I quite like how SE is handling the difficulty issue at the moment.

The "top of the line" stuff is pretty hardcore.

    e.g.
    crafting
    - the absolute best gear will try your patiences to it's limit with it's overmelding bull
    - lower level stuff isn't that bad, thanks to artisan gear from the vendor that comes "fully melded" at a very reasonable cost; not without effort, but not the bull insanity that is overmelding to cap.

This is probably the model SE will go with for the foreseeable future. Latest cutting edge stuff will be hardcore, but as time pasts they difficulty will be reduced.

People who want a challenge can do the cutting edge and be rewarded for it. People who can't be bothered or don't have the energy/time, can stay a step behind the cutting edge and still get content to do all the same.

If you wanted to get geared for Naxxramas (highest tier of raid at vanillia), you needed to get gear from AQ40. If you wanted to do AQ40, you needed to get gear from BWL. If you wanted to do BWL, you must get an item from Onyxia so you don't die to shadowflames and get gear from MC. If you wanted to do MC and onyxia, you needed to do a very long questline that involved clearing UBRS. In order to do UBRS.... you see where I'm going. I'm not even done yet and thats how "catching up to raids" worked in vanillia. If you were not one of the first few players, you were incredibly hard pressed to even find a guild that'll carry you through. There was no dungeon match making or party finder either, you had to shout in cities to get people for dungeons (and hope someone had the key for it).

The story for each raid was there for people that were interested. AT the same time, there was no pre-requites at the time to be able to enter said instances, and there was certainly no content gating that required players to finish the previous tier to move in. Catching up is similiar to how it is now, there are justice/valor points (soldiery/poetics respectively) that can be used to purchase the previous tier and the current tier of gear, with heroic raid drops being the absolute highest ilvl.

Raiding content as of MoP (when I still played), was (in order of increasing difficulty and item level) LFR -> Flexibile > Normal > Heroic.

LFR was pretty much duty finder for 25 players; mechanics were extremely nerfed so people would be able to PUG it reasonsaby (think the second coil nerfs). If you stand in a fire, you take slight damage.

Flexible was for people who had variable player roster. You could move in with a minimum of 10 and a maximium of 25, or anything inbetween. The raid itself would scale its number appriporiately. Mechanics are left intact as if it was in normal mode, but ilvl is lower. If you stand in a fire, you take damage that people need to heal through.

Normal was available in both 10/25 man. Essentially the same as flexible except the numbers are toned up. More loot drops in 25man. If you stand in a fire, you die.

Heroic was also available in both 10/25 man, and would be the equivalent of savage or normal FCoB in some cases. If you stand in a fire, you combust and kill your entire raid.

At that point, there was something for everyone. My problem with MoP was that they introduced a lot of the dailies too soon and I ended up burning out myself (that, and having no on to play with)

As to the other points, again I agree, that would be fun, but unfortunately it probably won't happen because the design of the game is get to max level as fast as possible, then do instances.
I'm sorry but where the heck dose my post mention pvp I don't do pvp and don't really care for it so had nothing to do with my post.

This is exactly what Square is trying to avoid in XIV. This problem is rather prevalent in XI, even now, as everyone is off doing iL content rendering entry into the game a barren experience. By reducing the difficulty of older content and adding it to the Duty Finder new players can enjoy it without having the jump the same hurdles we did when the game was young. You have to accommodate for everyone, not just the people who were first, or you wind up alienating whole segments of the community.

I still feel the rewards of T5/T9 are out of sync with their difficulty, especially when you consider what Shiva Extreme rewards for its mechanic difficulty. And now they're about to remove restrictions on the World of Darkness treasure.

This extends to Titan Extreme and Urth's Fount as well.

There is nothing hard about T5/T9 with the amount of echo they give now. If someone doesn't move from twister on T5 when they see twintania casting twister odds are they will die on Shiva EX too. From what i seen on T5 is that there are a lot of dps who don't use focus target and die to the twister that comes out while one of the adds is out. With some more effort these fights will be easy.
