    I've never played WoW, but I've beta tested most MMORPG's before WoW and continued to Beta test MMORPG's once everyone decided that was the one to play, and the argument never changed. Most games try to copy what "worked" before, and nerf what wasn't "fun" in previous games. We are well past that point now.

    When a developer decides to nerf older content so newer players can catch up, they do this at their own peril. In games where players just keep making new characters because they are race/class-locked, this also offers a chance to older players to roll new characters to catch up, and thus keep them paying. However for players who already sunk that time, it's a huge slap in the face. So developers need to be careful how they nerf content so that it allows players to catch up without making it seem like the existing players did it only to waste their time.

    eg, the relic weapons. These are just huge time-sinks. However they are still better than the equivalent blue weapon at that ilevel. SE could nerf all the steps required to catch up by changing certain RNG aspects. For example, the Atma's from FATE's and Alexandrite steps could be changed so they could be bought directly with the next kind of Tomes.
