Lol! If kids can't understand the quest text they really should be doing schoolwork and not playing games. Literacy is sexy children! The fact this is even a complaint disappoints me and I already lacked faith in humanity. I'm not an English major either but I still understand it...
It literally translates to: "Yo dawg, a primal's all up in our hood. Never thought this homie would be all up in our shit like this but we sent out our boys to check it out and you're going with them. Bring the light 'n shit."
Lol guides.SE please make the story easier to experience
normal people can't understand this nonsense, we're not all hardcore English majors, we shouldn't have to look up guides on Merriam-Webster made by elitist English majors on how to understand the game. Please use http://simple.wiktionary.org/wiki/Main_Page in the future thanks.

The text in this game sucks for me personally. I understood it as well, but I am not one to play the Divinci Code in every single text and use context clues constantly.
I notice they use "Mayhap..." a lot.
I haven't been out of High School for that long but I don't recall seeing this much.... type of text unless I was reading poems from Edgar Allen Poe. Very annoying.
They have not taught up this type of writing so can't really blame anyone. English is the best of my studies but Jesus I can't tolerate it in this game haha.
Limnsa's thick accent hurt my brain so much I usually skip every text. The ROG people are easier to understand at least.

Friend to the dawn, hear my plea. Tidings most ominous arrive from Gridania─a primal walketh the Shroud. Those who have borne the eldritch spirit witness─and returned to tell the tale─avow that ne'er before have they seen its like. The Gods' Quiver doth investigate as we speak, and meseems Bowlord Lewin would welcome a capable adventurer's helping hand. Pray hie thee to the Seat of the First Bow and shine thy light upon the matter.

Friend there is trouble listen. There is a unknown creature out wandering gridania a primal is freely walking the forest. The ones who have gone after it have not returned go the the first bow learn what you can and report back to me.
I don't got this higher learning English you be talking about friend but I understood good very goodly.

One thing I have noticed which think should address by a couple of those whining about casual players aka the non-hardcore majority which play this game is the statements some have made claiming casuals do not like challenges which is an incredibly naive thing to say. Casual players like most people face enough challenges in their lives already plus not forgetting from other games they might also play which is highly challenging...so god forbid they do not want this specific game to be a constant challenge adding to the frustrations already built up from playing other games or aspects of their lives.
Just because they do not want a specific aspect of this game to be as highly challenging does not mean they do not like challenges, it just means they get their fill of challenging content from other games or challenges in life and with this game they want to take it a bit more easy on than those others. Not every game and everything you do has to be hardcore, annoying or frustration worthy in order for you to occasionally enjoy challenging yourself which often comes from other games, other hobbies, some content in this game or life in general.
So people should cut out that nonsense about casuals not liking challenges.

This isn't even a problem isolated to MMOs, but gaming in general. Look what happened to the Elder Scrolls series. You got from a complex and customizable game like Daggerfall or Morrowind and get this stripped down version with Skyrim. CoD perfected it in FPS games. Even Civilization 5 was simplified until they brought things back in the DLC packs.
One of the main problem is that some players keep asking SE to make FFXIV even more easy than it's already is!
Also when people like me tell them to stop asking SE to dumb FFXIV down, those people tell me that I should go and play with another game instead then, if I don't like that THEY wanna play an even more easy version of FFXIV that is dumbed down even more to THEIR level!
HOW is that logical at all to ask a player that already likes the game as it is (with many other players) to go play another game because THEY don't like it like this and they want a dumber version? THEY should go play another game since THEY don't like the game as it is and want it to be even more easy! Seriously some people are soo egoist and THEY dare to call ME an egoist because I protect what I like! And many many other players like aswell and would like to keep it safe from dumb players silly wishes of an even more easy dumbed down version!

Richard, he's not asking the game to be harder. He's asking to keep the game as it is (which is still apparently too hard).
You don't seem to understand the difference between 'time consuming' and 'difficult'. Something that takes weeks of monotonous, thoughtless activity is not 'hard'. Relics are not 'hard'. Fishing progression is not 'hard'. They take no skill what so ever. They are time consuming. Having to practice and evolve your skill is fine. Having to mindlessly repeat and repeat and repeat content that you could finish in your sleep is NOT fine.
I see very few people asking for the game to be 'easier' (there have been a few). What I mostly see is people asking for the game to not be so 'grindingly' boring.
Final Fantasy (the series) was never an easy game, yet noone was whineing to nerf it down! Noone asked Squaresoft to fix a bossfight so they can beat it! They practiced and eventually won.
So I really don't see a difference, because I payed for FFXIV and I knew what I payed for (and still pay for) so NO, I won't let whiney kids or lazy adults make SE nerf it down to their lvl just because they cant beat every boss or content in the game!
I'm not perfect eighter, I havent beated every content, but instead of whineing, I practice (when I have time) with friends, guild, PF, and become better at it!
Actually I really don't understand why do people think they must beat every boss in FFXIV (or every NPC in Triple Triad) and if they are not skilled enough then SE has to nerf that content down to their skill level!
I just want to protect FFXIV from halfwits who wish to get this great game nerfed down even more, and more!
