In the greater scheme of things, getting to 50 in all crafting classes is cheap. It is the materia melds that are necessary for higher tier recipes is the expensive part. However, that's not to say you can't make gil earlier than 4-star recipes. But you'll rely on volume, diversity and filling niches to make some bank.
