We have had this conversation once before remember? Here is a convo you and I had back on the 29th of December to which you never responded back.

Then my question to you would be when did you complete it. I did my Epic quest in EQ when it was the new shiny thing to do at level 50ish or 55. (current level in eq is 105) It wasn't a quest that could be completed quicker then the Relic quest. Especially considering there was Epic 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5. So my guess would be that you completed it sometime at a higher level? Some of the grinds took several months just to get one drop. Example Cleric 1.0 and Paladin 1.0. Not to mention they had requirements (at the time) which required a raid force of 72 people to help you (this was before they downsized raids to 54 people). If you were in a guild that raided that meant you had to wait your turn. So when quoting me, please tell the whole story, because as I stated before. Anybody who has done the Epic quest for weapons in Everquest can tell you that the relic quest line is easy. I will leave you with this last note, if you completed the Epic quest line quicker then the relic questline while it was in its prime then you would have been world first. If that were the case then cool for you. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=763 (just to give you an idea of (some) of the things you had to do to get this weapon.
As a side note - completing the Epic 1.0 in its prime meant you were already unlocking key zones in Planes of Power, which meant if you had not unlocked these zones you were not doing your Epic until those key progression zones were unlocked. Yes they gated content back then too. Anybody who was trying to get into the Plane of Time during that progression iteration would more then likely be able to tell you how long it took their guilds to clear all the demi gods and Time itself. This extra note I added just to give an idea of why it took many of us a long time to complete our Epics.
Plane of Power progression - had to do stuff like this before you could even get your Epic http://tancidtherogue.com/pop.html

The only thing about your proposal is that it's entirely subjective to each individual player what is fun or not or what gives them a sense of accomplishment. I hate crafting in mmorpgs so I would not enjoy taking all crafts to level 50 in your hypothetical situation. I enjoy grinding content for some reason. I loved grinding Shiva Ex to get Diamond weapons for all 6 of my jobs. I enjoyed doing the Zodiac Saga and I enjoyed other Grindy content that I don't need to elaborate further on.

Relic quests are not that bad and I feel like I can farm the same dungeons over and over again no problem. Whats killing me is that other players' attitudes are getting worse and worse with each run or dungeon, resulting in rage quitters and/or crying enough until other players leave or get kicked and I'm left shaking my head helplessly.
I'm STILL working on books towards my animus where I should've had my Zeta by now. But every time I get a new book I stall a bit on completing the dungeons part because I'm just so turned off by DF runs, even in the easiest of dungeons sadly.![]()
Upvoted. I agree wholeheartedly. That sense of accomplishment is why people play MMOs, I think. The only thing about your proposal is that it's entirely subjective to each individual player what is fun or not or what gives them a sense of accomplishment. Personally, I'm only midly getting that feeling at each step of the relic grind. And that feeling is fleeting as I progress into the next step.
I love the smell of necromancy in the mornin'!
Different strokes for different folks. A lot of people like the current design. A lot of people dont. This is the only 'grindy' thing in this game. Let the grinders have ONE piece of content. Enjoy the other 99% if you dont.
A weapon isn't content. The content is what you actually do in the game.
Funny how most FFXIV players forget that simple fact (it is not very surprising though, as in live letter SE has an history of featuring the rewards of any particular content rather than the content in itself).

Is the weapon not a piece of data within the game? Is the relic only what you believe it to be?A weapon isn't content. The content is what you actually do in the game.

Oh god, it all makes sense now.
Eorzea is just a collection of 1's and 0's
A wheel upon which we adventurers trod
Our every accomplishment is merely an abstract experience, and as the numbers pile up our breakthroughs are measured in levels
The enemies we surmount are eternal!
I thought those pirates were twins! What if they're the same guy?
AAAAAAAAHHH!
I don't have an issue with MOST of the steps in this admittedly very grindy content.
HOWEVER the RNG based parts are utter hell for no real reason. What this mostly means is the Dungeon and Fate atma drops. This BS NEEDS TO STOP. Going to a dungeon without any progress counted towards the eventual drop of the atma is miserable torture and it's literally wasting an entire hour of your life for nothing.
SE NEEDS to rework their RNG system to fit today's standards. There needs to be a bump of percentage going up every time you miss until you're eventually 100% guaranteed a drop.
There are people who don't have any idea what it is to be one of those players who get stuck in one single phase for months JUST because of RNG.
Put this in perspective: I was farming my last atma drop in the same zone for 3 MONTHS non-stop every single day for hours before I was allowed to move onto the next phase. Even with an increased drop rate of today RNG makes this still completely possible. Even if YOU are one of the lucky ones never to have been in the same situation have some decency to at least understand the facts some players have to deal with. This is NOT good game design and there are dozens of games that have brought their RNG systems to 2015 already that SE could copy.
