    No fun to be new.

I recently made an alt character to go back through the story. I have run into a bit of a snag though and have realize some things that I think could make the game a bit more enjoyable.
To aid in ones adventure games provide mounts for faster ground travel. I have played final fantasy 11, Tera Online, and Final Fantasy 14 up to the point where you get a mount. In Final Fantasy 11, players could get the mount at level 20 by doing a quest. In Tera, players could get a mount as early as level 10. In Final Fantasy 14 a player has to level to about 25 while doing the story and once they join a Grand Company they have to run content such as: FATEs, Dungeons, GC levequests to obtain the appropriate amount of GC seals, and then they can get a mount. For doing the story as you play this doesn't seem like much but to a player that started new and just wants to play around, say the 14 day trial, this is a bit much.

The first area I can remember doing FATEs as a party was in Western La Noscea. I recently traveled to Vesper bay as a level 13 to try to ferry hop over to Limsa; however, I was denied access. I was able to travel freely on foot between Ul'dah and Gridania. The problem I have here is that when you reach level 10 and do the level 10 guild quest for whatever class it is you started the game as, we are told that we can now unlock and experience other jobs if we would like to. This offer sounds really good; but the fact that I am limited to where I can travel impedes this offer to venture the game.

While trying to level I have been wanting to "Grind" by killing normal monsters in the over world (not a big fan of 40+ minute instances). FATEs are nice but when you have to solo them for a decent amount of experience, you can easily find yourself overwhelmed. Normal monsters in the over world as of the moment go up to level 50; however, there is only one spot in the entire world where normal monsters reach this level (Urth's Gift). Monsters inside instances dungeons give up to 1000 exp per kill. In the over world a normal monster only gives around 150 to 300 per kill. This seems a bit unbalanced to me.

    You have the "run" button.
If you try to compare it to a mount, you fill find the mount will go over you for not so much more, and when traveling a good amount of distance.

Then, if you simply switch job, all unlocks keeps valid and you can run wherever you want with your naked level 1 (provided you had done all and everything with your main).

A new character is limited in places to go, because some areas are intended for levels higher than him. This also provides some protection from powerleveling and carries.

Your ferry unlocks at 15. That is.. uhmm... two hours to play?

Then, the game is tuned to put your best leveling spot into dungeons or quests. If you want level using other methods, well...

Edit: at late levels (about 45+) some people likes to level by fates. That is an option but duties are still far better. Do Aurum Vale two or three times at 48, and you are 50.

Chocobo porter fees are so minimal that it is pretty much impossible run out of Gil because of that.

Are you guys plotting to play the game in the worse possible way? You are doing a good job. I never thinked to rent a Chocobo back and forth, until all my Gil drained out. Pretty impressive.

snide replies and "deal with it" are quite unimpressive.

The thing is, for a new player, all these restrictions aren't a big deal.
The game is all still new to them - and the story guides them to different locations and unlocks different activities at a good pace. They can't miss what they've never had. But since you've already played the game, you know what's coming so you're impatient to get to certain milestones :P

I would suggest to keep on doing the Main Story quests (the ones with the golden Meteor is it’s quest icon). Once you get to the level 15 quest, you will unlock access to the Airships since you need to go to each city state and run their low level dungeons (Sastasha in Western La Noscea, Tam-Tara Deepcroft in Central Shroud and Copperbell Mines in Western Thanalan). Each dungeon should take an average of 30 minutes to complete (depending on the party).

Also, when you’ve completed the first quest of a battle class, you will gain access to the Hunting Log. In it you will find certain mobs you can hunt down for a decent amount of Experience Points.

If you’ve completed the “Call to the Sea” Main story quest (the first quest you’ll get after unlocking access to the Airships), you can also pick up the “Rising to the Challenge” quest, which will unlock the Challenge Log. This log contains weekly challenges, which will also give you a decent amount of Experience points.

Other then that, i would suggest hunting down the side quests in each area as well. And finally, the game will grant you access to Behests and Guildleve’s from Level 10 on. You will get around 3 Leve Allowance each 12 hours (so 6 every day) and they will stack up to 99.

Next to farming FATE’s and Dungeons, those are the best options for gathering Experience Points. The game has been designed in a way that it discourages farming monsters out in the field for gathering Experience Points .
