Option to restrict /tells to Friends List (Bye Bye, Gil Spam!)

Apologies if this has already been suggested.

I was running around in Mor Dhona and getting the usual incessant spamming from the RMTs and thought it would be nice to have an option to restrict tells to those who are only on your Friends list. This would reduce the obnoxious tell spam that we get when hanging around cities and other common areas.

Any thoughts?

Edit: To clarify, this would be an option in the window that could be turned on and off.

How am I going to ask the guy in the PF if I may join his pty as mnk when he's looking for drg/nin or join with ilvl 121 when he's looking for 122+ ?
There are many other ocassions when you want to whisper (for privacy reasons) and you don't want to add EVERYONE to your fl . For example ppl in your LS. You might want to discuss sth with them but don't want to hear anyone else

He could just as easily be set to "Busy" status, which a lot of people have resorted to in order to avoid RMT spam.

Well, other aspect:
Now you do 2 clicks to add the RMT whisperer to Blacklist.
Imagine all RMT-Spammers to frequently send you friend requests. There are some who do that even now. Because you have to click No, then open your freindlist, searching his name, rightclick to decline friend request, rightclick his name in chat and add him to you blacklist. Annoying as HELL-
So... do this with the frequency of whispers incoming today without your restrictions

It's not a restriction. It's just an option to only have people on your Friends list send you tells that can be turned on or off. It's not a solid restriction across the board that would apply to all. But, you've already made up your mind and completely dismissed my suggestion, so I don't quite know what else to say.

The matter is just so simple!
When Gilsellers recognize, they can't whisper to you, they will try other ways, as they've always done.
The will /say, /shout, /yell - they will try to join your LSs and friendlist, they might even queue for dungeons to /party or /alliance.
You can press bubblegum into some holes of the sieve and the water will still pour out.
There's no online game that's free from goldsellers..
Bad enough that we can't send letters to ppl we don't have added to our fl.
There are but two ways to stop RMT spamming:
1) Post a thread that says "Make FFXIV an offline game! (Bye bye Gil Spam)
2) Stop people from buying dirty gold on dirty websites

But you cannot shut communication down.

No its a bad idea, /tell is quiet helpful when you least expect it as I've found out.

Was trying to run a friend through CT for first time other night, we had a full FC party (8) but the DF was taking forever as it seems we were only ones wanting to do it or whatever. So I teleported to Rev Toll, through one or two /shouts in chat about needing two parties for CT, newbie bonus etc.. Thats when I got a /tell's of strangers to arrange a run. See helpful and not spam.
Oh yeah after those two shouts the DF popped within minutes, think half of Rev Toll must of rolled CT at once lol.

Another helpful is in open world when everyones shouting in chat, I asked about a FATE in Coerthas and had a /tell back and forth with DPS arraning to come help when it popped.

Side-note: How bad is the RMT on other worlds? Phoenix is rather quiet these days, maybe one or two in last week lol.
