    Dragoon DPS Question - When to Chaos Thrust?

    Wierd question.

    I'm pretty tight in my cycle. I never miss having my DoT's up, and due to low skillspeed, I have the grace of not clipping into my DoT's so they tend to get full benefit. Phase 1-2 at i121 with jumping on the adds, I'm pulling about 480+ DPS

    However, I'm looking at the damage, and I'm wondering if I can optimize for the adds.

    Right now, I get about 6 GCD's on the add. That's enough for a full cycle of Chaos Thrust + full cycle of Full Thrust. Or two Full Thrust Cycles. Which one in terms of an average 6 rotation would be higher damage?

    Edit-In: This is for T13.

    Uh... I'm not on T13, but here's the answer as to "what is more DPS".

    It all depends on your groups DPS. How fast will your group kill the first add? If they kill it before/as you manage:
    • 3 GDC's, then using a Full Thrust combo is much better, then switch to the next add.
    • 5 GDC's, then your best bet would be to Chaos Thrust the first add, jump to the second add, Impulse Drive -> Disembowl -> Full thrust Combo.
    • 6 GDcs, then Chaos Thrust both adds.
    • 7 GDC's, then Chaos Thrust -> Impulse Drive first add, jump to next target, Disembowl -> Chaos Thrust -> Full Thrust combo.
    • 8 GDC +, Chaos Thrust -> Phlebotomize first add -> Jump to next target -> Chaos Thrust combo -> Full Thrust Combo.
    • 9 GDC +, Chaos Thrust -> Phlebotomize first add -> Jump to next target -> Chaos Thrust combo -> Phlebotomize -> Full Thrust Combo.

    I believe that's the standard format of how we should spread DoTs. I just do it automatically without thinking. As for specifically T13, this could all be BS, but these are combo's that you should be thinking about.

    Also, use the Rotation Reborn thread next time. We were just discussing T13 2 days ago.

    adds come out one at a time, and are well-seperated by roughly ~1minute's time (little less)

    They die within 6 GCD's

    You mean the Shadows? That's fast enough that your attacking them at all is probably inefficient. But then you have to plan for either holding DPS or dealing with a Shadow in the next phase.

    The add phase itself is a fixed length and once it's under control, anything you do better only comes at a cost to someone else.

    I don't attack they breath fire, sadly. they sometimes do while I attack! So I just need to find a way to optimize it, because I'm a whore for big numbers

    This can be explained with some math. Below are some options for 5GCD and 6GCD rotations. One thing that makes it a little bit difficult to calculate is the DoT portion of attacks. This is due to the 2.5 sec combined with a 3 sec DoT timer. For example. If you use Phlebotomize with 3 GCD's left in the rotation, then the DoT portion of the potency becomes: (30 potency/tick) * (7.5 seconds remaining)/(3 seconds per DoT tick) = 30*(7.5/3) = 75. That portion is then added to the initial hit portion (170 for Phleb) to get 170+75 = 245. From there you adjust accordingly for heavy thrust if applicable.

    6GCD Options:
    Option 1)
    True Thrust(150) -> Vorpal Thrust(200) -> Full Thrust(360) -> True Thrust(150) -> Vorpal Thrust(200) -> Full Thrust(360) = 1420 Potency
    Option 2)
    Impulse Drive(180) -> Disembowel(220) -> Chaos Thrust(330) -> True Thrust(165) -> Vorpal Thrust(220) -> Full Thrust(396) = 1511 Potency
    Option 3)
    Heavy Thrust(170) -> Impulse Drive(207) -> Disembowel(253) -> True Thrust(190) -> Vorpal Thrust (253) -> Full Thrust (455) = 1528 Potency
    Option 4)
    Phlebotomize(295) -> Impulse Drive(180) -> Disembowel(220) -> True Thrust(165) -> Vorpal Thrust(220) -> Full Thrust(396) = 1476 Potency
    Option 5)
    Heavy Thrust(170) -> Phlebotomize(311) -> Impulse Drive(207) -> True Thrust(172) - > Vorpal Thrust(253) - > Full Thrust(414) = 1527 Potency

    So basically, your strongest 6 GCD rotation is one CT combo followed by one FT combo (even with no heavy thrust).

    5GCD Options:

    ID(180) -> Dis(220) -> TT(165) -> VT(220) -> FT(396) = 1181
    HT(170) -> Ph(282) -> TT(172) -> VT(253) -> FT(414) = 1291

    Summary:
    5GCD: HT -> Ph -> FT Combo
    6GCD: HT -> ID -> Dis -> FT Combo
    7GCD: HT -> CT Combo -> FT Combo
    8GCD: HT -> Ph -> CT Combo -> FT Combo

    Note* This all assumes that you are coming from a point where you have no heavy thrust buff. If you already have heavy thrust buff up, then the ideal rotation changes somewhat.
