Oh wow.. Hope this doesnt put limitations on what they do for us just because the Chinese cant have it..

Don't worry, global version (playing on NA, EU an JP servers with only 1 client and 1 account) is separated from the chinese version (need the chinese client, an Shanda account and have to live in china).
We get the uncut version, the chinese get a china conform version.

The New Year event we had earlier is sort of related, but wrong celebration date lol. Again, not the end - but it would have been nice to have the game mimic the real world event I like, just as other events in FFXIV.

Don't celebrate japan the new year on the 31th december like the rest of the world?
The only connection I see between japanese and chinese new year are the zodiacs.

Lunar New Year based on a lunisolar calendar. I'm not referencing the Gregorian New Year, which we did have a celebration for - with a sheep. Of course many people celebrate the Gregorian New Year and aspecting it by it's history or location seems a bit inaccurate now, as people do their own thing to it hence New Year or Lunar New Year.

The sheep is what makes it sort of related, the date is still off if you were going to call it a celebration of the Lunar New Year though and that was what my comment was based on "related but not quite" if we were going to say that event was for the "Lunar New Year" as well. It is often called the Chinese New Year because they started/made that calendar and holiday; however, not only China celebrates it nor is the only influence to it (now) or do they actually call it that in their own language (Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore are off hand examples - and of course China).

I think Japan used to celebrate the Lunar New Year but stopped at sometime in their development, I wasn't necessarily thinking of Japan though :P.
