Gear with Max 5 materia >> materia?

Just wondering if we are able to convert a gear (with max 5 materia attachment) into materia again.

If yes, wow (super hardcore) lol
Any opinion?

I assume anything worn long enough to reach 100% affinity, and thus spiritbond point can be changed into materia.

So the question is, will this result in a better type of materia?
So far I think the armor or weapon alone will determine what type of materia will result, not what materia has been attached to it.

You can't Change any gear that has "Materia" on that Weapon or gear" into Materia again

this would be awsome lol, if can keep looping like this. i can picture this happening eventually, like every time they raise the ranks in game all gear opens up again to turn into a better version of materia if wanted to add to the new and upcomming gears too, that would also make older content more relevant still, doing old dungeons and getting gears to make that one materia for the newer content gear. i think this would be great.

They've already said that you won't be able to chain convert to make better materia. . . and then the forum regulars have reiterated it over and over again.

Can weapons that have been infused through materia craft be turned into materia again? Is this limited to one time only? Or can this be done multiple times?

You can turn equipment into materia as many times as you want.

Regarding the question I gleaned from the original poster (Can you generate materia from gear that already has materia attached to it?), I checked in with the dev. team and they said that isn't the current plan.
