not sure, but somehow it bothers me if I pay $40 for an expansion after 1+ year playing loyalty and then there will be a version ARR+Heavensward $50 or less. I will continue playing for sure but it builds up when you pay 3 accounts (mine and my two son's accounts)

For your loyalty, you get veteran rewards.
All are equal in the face of expansion content.
Hell, expansions area great way for those newish to the game to actually have a shot at being competitive with the veterans as whole new swaths of content are introduced, new means for gearing up, etc.

40 bucks for the standard edition expansion is below what blizzard charged for their latest expansion which was 50 bucks.

If players decide that the expansion isn't worth $40 that's their choice. Some people need to stop making it sound like SE is asking for an unusually high price for an expansion though.

This price is actually pretty generous for a JP company, it is actually "low" because they have a worldwide playerbase.

Games in JP typically cost a hella more than western counterparts.

Though I wouldn't complain to keeping more money in my pockets...

that is more then to official game was on release... 29.99 i was ok with but this is getting a bit too high i believe. i have been here since beta phase for 2.0. played 1.0 since alpha and over 6 years in ffxi ...

3.0 is practically an entire game. It's supposed to include the same amount of content that 2.0 did at launch. So SE claims.

Bouncing around the site, I didn't see a published price... just an icon for getting on a "Waiting List" for the Heavensward Collector's Edition.

In the past I've seen places put up a price to protect themselves in the event it gets released on the high side, but it actually winds up being less when released. There will often be a disclaimer of sorts where they will not bill you the full price until it is released or even until it ships--they may put a deposit of like $5 or something to reserve your copy though.

Need to read the fine print sometimes.

All the XI expansions were $29.99, or at least, as far back as CoP. Considering that was 10 years ago, it's amazing the price was that low for subsequent expansions.

However, consider that the mini-expansions (like ACP and Abyssea) were $10 *each* at launch. That's $60 for content that you'd be hard-pressed to say makes up one normal-sized expansion.

I think $40 for an expansion of this magnitude is justified, especially considering the time they devote to regular content updates (at no extra cost) and the cost of gaming in general.

This may not apply to everyone but if you have Best Buy GCU its only 32 bucks
