that is more then to official game was on release... 29.99 i was ok with but this is getting a bit too high i believe. i have been here since beta phase for 2.0. played 1.0 since alpha and over 6 years in ffxi ...

but this price is a bit high for a digital download expansion.

it's more than the base game is NOW, not more than the base game was when it first came out. 39.99 isn't even close to the price of a brand new, (not remastered/port of an old) game. 39.99 is not all THAT expensive tbh. I'm waiting to see what the physical CE is going to cost,

A Realm Reborn supposed to be $60 like the other full games. they made it $30 as some kind of an apologize for 1.0 being a disaster.

3.0 is practically an entire game. It's supposed to include the same amount of content that 2.0 did at launch. So SE claims.

Then don't buy it yet. If pre-order sales numbers don't hit what they anticipate, they MIGHT adjust the price down. Even if they don't, Steam will surely drop it to 50% within a month after release, because they do stuff like that.

But it's pretty clear SE can charge what they want, because they know that enough people will buy at the initial price point to avoid being a month behind.

2.0 wasn't a whole new game. More like a revamp of an existing game so they can't charge you full price for it. They were already in deep water with 1.0 and needed to be as kind to the players as possible. Had 2.0 actually been the games actual launch and been brand new it would have been 60$. That's standard price for new games nowadays. And 40$ is also a standard price for an mmo expansion.

Also digital download versions barely cost less than phyiscals at release.

I had to pay $20 (seriously that was an eye opener) tax on my PS4, but you're going to complain about $10? $40 is about the going rate for any expansion. even when i was making 12k/year i was not really sweating $10 =\

reminds me of when i talk to my cousin and her bf. they complain about how every class feels the same, everything in ffxiv is easy and ask me how i can stand playing the game lol
