I have anxiety too and I completely understand the not wanting to see face to face.On the totally personal side...well...it's somewhere I can feel like I matter. It makes me feel like I'm achieving something, even if it's on a screen in a fake world. I never finished high school because of depression and social anxiety, But I can sit here and help people and make friends I don't have to see face-to-face and get a fun distraction from being stressed out about the things I need to do eventually.
Also, because there's nothing else interesting to do with my spare time. TV is boring, sports are stupid, I obviously don't like hanging out with people, reading is okay...
My parents complained once I don't socialize with people spending my time on the game, only for them to sit down in front of the TV and not say a word to each other for hours. Go figure.
