So long as we (the community as a whole) treat speed runs as a mandatory requirement and not as an option, (a popular option), we will continue to foster and at best, sloppily patch up player inability in dungeons as a whole.

To be fair, it's no one's job to teach another how to play their role right or even how to speed run, but it'd be hard to disagree that speed and learning don't usually go hand in hand, especially in dungeons.

Best way to learn is by doing.
With a new fighting game, I put into training mode, put the CPU at the max difficulty, and get thrashed between reading wikis and watching videos about the game.

I had a similar experience with XIV. I hadn't healed much in MMOs when ARR launched, so I had a lot of learning to do, and at 50, everyone wanted to speedrun AK. So I learned it, and now can confidently do any sort of speedrun in the game, and can confidently do speed runs of new dungeons after doing them once normally.

The community will not baby through dungeons like you and very few others seem to want it to. When there is a new person, groups will throttle themselves a bit if it's a new healer or tank, so that's already a non-issue.

Please find me the post where I said that exactly. You seem to have a penchant for both putting words in my mouth and misinterpreting what I actually say.

That aside, I certainly agree with learning through experience. However, I will be the one to make that choice each and every time. Personally, I learned to SR on all 3 roles and still just didn't like it at all. I especially grew to hate it when - with no communication - players lacking experience either attempted to SR, or forced others lacking experience to do so. The bigger issue is both lack of communication as previously mentioned, and the fact that a popular and optional method is essentially a forced standard now. Some will adapt, and that's great. Some won't, and they may or may not learn in the heat of battle. I'm known for saying "Can't burn it if you don't learn it", but the last thing I'd do is put a gun in a rookie's hand and say "hurry up and figure it out as we go!"

    But that's just me.

You type so much yet say so little. Trim your posts down and say what you mean rather than pontificating like you tend to do. Maybe then people won't have to sift through what you type to find what you're trying to say.

    Anyway,
since most people do speedruns, wouldn't that put people who share your sentiment in the minority?
Maybe you should form premade groups in the party finder. There's even an option to tick for "Taking it slow".
This seems to be a simple and elegant solution.
