I would dispute that. My friend is heavy into crafting and makes millions with very little effort (Mining being his main source). You just have to watch the market. To say this game has no economy is very blind and shortsighted. It has one. Its just always is major flux. It works for people who know how to watch it and take advantage.

I have to agree with this. There is alot of gil moving around you just need to find it!

I didn't say there wasn't an economy I said there's no real economy. I mainly craft and I have several friends that mainly craft and the money coming in is slow compared to other MMOs. That's because everyone can do everything and everyone can get everything. (That's sellable anyway). So there's a lot of supply with not much demand. I enjoy making money in every mmo, but here its just extremely slow.

They are not okay with botting. I reported a bot at The Fury's Gaze who was spiritbonding constantly, and it was gone within a week.

I do think it's the most trivial thing ever to locate bots (giant clouds of multiboxing thaumaturges everywhere,) but just because there's a ton of them doesn't mean they aren't doing anything.

That's when you buy out all the undercutters and post your own prices ;P whenever I post something I rarely ever undercut. The only reason I would is if the screen is filled by 1 person posting a crap ton of 99 items just so I can actually see it. 99% of the time, I overcut (yes, I post higher prices than the bare minimum)

One example, there are 10 (items) being sold at 2999 gil for stacks of 99 the next highest price is 5450 (because someone was undercutting) I post small amount items at 5400 - 6000 in much smaller stacks. Mine sell while the stacks of 99 sit... and sit.... and sit and then I restock (not ever selling more than * of the same item at a time, ie. 6 stacks of 5 items) and keep filling it up as long as people are buying.

Honesty, I make and spend so much gil its quite pathetic. IE. I spend from 2.4 million down to 770k and 2 days later I'm back up to 2.1 mil again and keep repeating the process. Its really not hard *after* you actually sit down at the MB for a few hours actually seeing what sells the most at the highest prices daily. It will vary server to server, but the principle is still the same. Do your research and profit. Keep an eye on more than one product at a time. If you can, take advantage of market fluctuations. IE some things sell high mid week while other things sell high on weekends. What you make depends on what you actually put into it (and have the capability of making.)

The real question shod be why do you not care. It gives another player an advantage that does affect me. It affects my ability to be competitive because I have to deal with unfair competition. People pushing one button can farm 3-4 million Gil a night then use that money to pay a group that farm coils for ease of gearing up can possibly steal spots from people who manually try to grind out gear.

The real problem is crystals are gathered so slowly that many resort to using bots to collect a respectable amount.

I think this is a big issue right here.
Crystals and Shards are gathered at about the same rate, with shards being marginally faster because of some key nodes having multiples, and retainer ventures returning more per run, on top of the early quests and crafting leves that just plain give them away.
Clusters are rare, and pretty much rightfully so.
However, there's a bit of a disparity in shard acquisition vs. crystals: Crystals drop from more mobs (they drop from anything over about lvl 30, shards only drop off things under lvl 30, and clusters don't drop off anything) and with the exception of retainer ventures, anything that gives you more shards also gives you more crystals. The problem is the number of SHARDS you actually need for things increases exponentially, with combines for artisan tool items requiring 10-11, and minions requiring 99. meanwhile the number of crystals or clusters required for something never really exceeds 5 of a single type.
We need double the number of shards to make things compared to crystals, but the acquisition rate is closer to equal barring retainer ventures and leves (the latter of which you need to use shards to get shards from, and it's random as to what type and whether you'll get any at all.)

I made a suggestion a while ago that the higher the node the more shards it gives per swing. levels 1-5 give 1, 10-15 give 2. 20-25 give 3 upto level 50 nodes giving 6 per swing. Which would make it less an onerous task to harvest quantities of them thus making it less desirable to feed the gil farmers pockets.
