Just finish every book related to the sword, then pick the relevant enhancement option on Jalzahn like you did with your shield. There are a lot of books for the sword.

Just a guess, but try reducing your Main hand weapon items in your equipment inventory.

Your screenshot shows 25 items in main hand weapons.

I noticed sometimes I need to have 24 or less to trade a get a new item. Even changing gear set sometimes gets errors when all slots are filled.

And you are doing the upgrade with another weapon equipped, right? Because you can't unequip your job weapon into an empty slot regardless of upgrading it or not, so to upgrade the primary weapon, you need to have another weapon equipped at the time.
