I understand that song was composed for the original 1.0 version, but since the creation of A Realm Reborn, the song (and remixes) has been used almost exclusively for the fall of Dalamud and then the Binding Coils - with Bahamut Prime having the original song as his battle theme.

So I'm wondering, is the song strictly just for Bahamut now? Or will they use it for other future content, like the Battle of Ishgard or the War of Magi, etc.? The lyrics' applicability to a lot of the Eorzea's history makes it seem to be a waste to limit it only to Dalamud's prisoners.

Answers has always been FFXIV's main theme song, even back at the start of 1.0 when it was still the original Tanaka-led team running things (the first taste the player had of it in 1.0 is a few lines played when the player first gained the Echo at the start of the game). Accordingly, it's use in the Binding Coil of Bahamut was more connecting it back to 1.0's story and the fact a distorted version replaced all zone BGM in 1.0 in the final weeks of service (in relation to the story, just prior to the Calamity). Hence it was also used in ARR during the 'Rising' event to celebrate ARR's first anniversary of service in August last year.

From what I understand though, it was stated at the Fanfest that the development team actually want to move away from the legacy of Answers as the game's theme and thus apparently there will be a new 'main theme' for Heavensward to replace it, that will be used for promotional trailers and in the game itself, but what that theme exactly is is anyone's guess.

Enkidoh has the right of it (as is often the case).

Think of FINAL FANTASY XIV as a TV show. Answers was crafted for the purpose of being the theme of the first season. To keep the metaphor running, the pilot bombed and it got canceled after a few episodes, but people saw potential and the network didn't want a big black stain on their flagship brand, so they brought in a new director/producer to redo the first season. Because [Version 2.0] is also technically [Version 1.0-B], the theme remained the same. Answers is thus used in the Coil because it's the epitome of the first and last episode of this re-done first season. A lot of people forget this when they try to interpret the meaning of Answers' lyrics, as well, and end up trying to tie the vaguer parts of the song to all sorts of recent and future developments as opposed to the game's intended Season One foundation. Season Two was likely always planned to have a new theme song, but they didn't expect it to be four years later with a new game and a new team structure. This is one of the reasons why HEAVENSWARD is such a big deal - we're finally moving past Season One.

And I'm looking forward to Season 2 myself.

Heavensward will be the first time we see truly original content with absolutely no influence from 1.0's plot or locations. (And yes, since Coil is essentially the buried ruins of Dalamuld I consider it to be a "Ghost of 1.0" as well.)
So I'm looking forward to content that was completely made from scratch by the Yoshida led Development Team. And even though Answers by Susan Calloway is by far one of my favorite songs ever I'm looking forward to the new theme in hopes that I'll be able to add it to that list as well.

Not to mention the addition of new never before seen primals, beast tribes, and Races. I think it'll be quite ironic when I play a an Au'ran Dragoon on the new dragon mount since that will make me a "Dragon Man" hunting dragons while riding a dragon. <Cue Song of The Dragonborn from Elder Scrolls Skyrim> Lol

Well in 1.0 the song was a lot linked to the fall of dalamud, the first time you heard these words was when seeing pieces of dalamud falling from the sky, so I think they wanted to link it to Dalamud and therefor to Bahamut, the coil of bahamut theme and battle theme ( against trash mainly ) are remixes of Answer, the T12 theme is also a remix of answer.
