If you guys want a Hard Core MMO, start requesting one from From Software and the creators of Dark/Demon Souls/Bloodbourne.

Until then, stop whining about what this game is not. With so many "issues" the OP has, it would require Neo Bahamut to come down and completely destroy Eorzea again. Let's just not go there...

Thats the problem of static programming, while its too easy for Player A, it is too hard for Player B...
What this game needs is much more dynamic programming where enemies are reacting on the actions players are setting!

I used to feel the same way as the OP but over the course of years... I used to be hardcore into Everquest and I do miss those open world exploration MMOs like that especially sailing on a ship in the ocean and literally waiting until you reach your destination I used to be all into that. These days I'd just prefer unnecessary time sinks to be removed from MMOs. Even if we still have to grind for items and fates or whatever, it still feels more 'fast paced' than having to run to all your destinations and struggle to kill a simple overworld enemy.

I'm just looking to feel more 'satisfied' with my time invested in a game now a days because I've grown conscious of my time being limited. Having an extra 1 hour of my game time being used due to having to commute to a destination that I've already commuted to once already is just redundant to me. Having to struggle to kill my quest NPCs during long questlines is unappealing.

Still... That feeling of exploration that I got from Everquest... I don't think any game will give me that feeling again. Guild Wars 2 had a beautiful world though especially the underwater stuff while FFXIV is really linear and a lot of really beautiful places are cluttered with NPCs that aggro you. Still, FFXIV plays well, feels fast paced despite some of these grinds like the relics being slow as heck. I think FFXIV could do a little better with the world design for immersion purposes but I don't really want to be forced to run to dungeons with parties while waiting for everyone to get there or having to run back and forth to destinations without any other travel options.

It's interesting to note that during Everquest, Druids and Wizards could teleport people to specific locations and save great amounts of time on commutes. I used to park in hotspots with my Wizard and sell teleports to people literally you could make good money with this stuff. The point is, even back then when there was no such thing as easy teleports and what not, people did everything they could to shorten their commute times to save time.

    This thread again...

Look at what happened to the Relic Quest when people complained it being "too easy", SE introduced Atma/Animus and people went apecrap on SE for making it too hard

Its quite ironic your name is "reality_check" and yet you point that out

Theres what they call the "outside realm" where you get to meet other species of the same kind they call humans, they like to laugh, socialize and best of all, they dont lag and just disappear and disconnect in front of your face

    Try it out some time

We have not gone too far, this game was always supposed to be like this. Plus if they try making something harder, people start crying and whining immediately. I am glad that endgame 8man raid in this game is difficult enough for me to keep me entertained.

It was annoying in late FFXI when people would refer to things as being soloable, which made me think I could solo them, but when I'd go to look up a strat I'd find out they actually meant they did it by themself while playing as two characters at once.

This game is great, very accessible, easy to get into yet takes some effort to master. So many things to do, and to explore. Easy to solo, log and play, you can do half the content without needing the help of others. A few ways to play, to suit your need, and your time. Duty finder is a blessing (and a curse as well...). The bottom line is this, it is all about the players, and the people in your server clusters. Country makes a big difference as well, when it comes to culture, and what it means to be a human being.

Soon, we will be getting NPCs that we can take to dungeons so we no longer need other players and all DPS can solo from lvl 1-50 and be utterly clueless on how to play their rotation and what it is expected from a DPS. FFXI has these Trust NPCs to help the lower levels since that game is very top heavy at the moment.

I consider the mercenary system a good one to help new players progress through low level content. FFXI has such a system if I recall from back when I played it too. WoW I think has also introduced a mercenary system I believe though I haven't played that in a decade. I do not believe it will make players clueless about anything using mercenaries at lower levels. I think your comment about that aspect is a bit melodramatic to be honest.
