Ultros dead? Server population?

Hi all,

My first week playing FFXIV - and there's one thing I've noticed. I haven't seen much of anyone on Ultros and that server's forum thread isn't active much, at all. If Ultros is in fact, a low populated server - why does character creation close so often on it? Furthermore, what servers are populated and how is this game doing in terms of subscriptions? I'd hate to waste time on a game that not many people are playing, especially for a community driven game.

I think with 2.5 and the coming expansion that a lot of people are subbing.. I see so many new people running

I might be mistaking but Ultros doesn't seem dead imo. I don't play during busy hours because of my timezone but when I can stay really late the server seem pretty alive to me. It happens a few times that the server is full when i try to log in and I see new players everywhere as of late.

At this point many people hang out in Mor Dhona or in their FC housing area so if you are gauging population based on how many people are in the main cities you might not be getting the full picture. A ton of people have started out on Hyperion and a lot of my friends who stopped playing have returned as well and I'm sure it's the same case for other servers.

Another thing to keep in mind is that during peak hours many players are probably in the middle of doing dungeons or raids so you won't see them around.

How active the server threads are is not indicative of population either. Many people are new to MMOs in this game, especially on the non-legacy servers, so they don't use forums much. It's only a small portion of the players that actively use the forums in the first place.

I recommend you just don't use the server specific subforums for anything (even for trying to contact people/FCs/LSs on Ultros). Ultros is far from dead. But server-specific forums are in a torpor at best.
