Relic Reborn: Hyrda - double tank or not?

I have been queuing into the Relic Reborn duties because it's an easy way to get some token. The Hydra one however, is getting stupid. Some people get mad when I am not tanking as well, and some inflated ego tanks get pissed when I am standing up there with them. It's really ridiculous. 8200 hp paladin almost got one shot and got mad at me for trying to "main tank", when clearly I wasn't since I was using Sword Oath, and not Shield Oath. Does his one attack not split damage between tanks?

So the question is, does it need two tanks or not?

It certainly only needs one tank and i prefer to do it that way. Atleast if the tank is wel geared enough.

Actually, I just (well, a couple of hours ago) ran Hydra, with my ilvl I dunno 118 or 119 about PLD. Another PLD I could tell had dungeon appropriate gear, had his white equipped sword, and with his 3400 about HP he charged up. I let him, and let him stand in front alone. He was never one-shotted. And he did a good job overall. So if a tank with that quality of gear can do it, and the DPS watch their own agro. That swipe attack must be a percentage instead of a fixed amount.

i80 plus just single tank it. That fight was a joke at i50.

Hi, some people overreact or are nasty, they are a small minority. Sometimes you meet one of them, bad luck.

About the tanks, when I did the relic quest for PLD long ago everybody shared triumvirate because if not it was one shot. There was no trial roulette so all present were with their pre-relic weapons and ilvl60 or so.

Now with the trial roulette you meet overgeared people and things have changed a lot.

I usually do the trial roulette with other classes so I hadn't tanked there for a long time. When I did the relic for the WAR, I went to hydra overgeared except the weapon (my main is PLD). I asked the other tank to share triumvirate since I was getting killed (maybe healers had a bit of fault too), he refused and refused (without getting nasty) to share triumvirate, I asked nicely (and he kept dying before I did all the time, not to triumvirate, lol). Finally we passed: he was dead on the floor for about a minute or two and I died too just seconds before Hydra also died. Lol, he was shouting in the chat: heal the main tank!!!

I would say: if you see the only tank gets killed by triumvirate for any reason (weak tank, weak healers, too busy healing other people...), share it. It's not that bad to have the second tank take some damage too.

Youp as stated above as newly lvl 50 tank back in 2.0 with i60 max for all people in the group it was 2 tank to share but from i70 on we kept solotanking it except that offtank surely is practical to grab the add before it rapes a healer :P

As long as the MT has 6500 or more HP (and is a competent dodger), there is zero reason to have both tanks up front. Triumverate deals 6k damage max, even if not split.

And dear god, if a tank tries to constantly spin Hydra to reduce damage, they are garbage tanks lol.

Back in the day you would solo tank it and just have the solo tank constantly spin the boss around in circles.

Now it can be solo tanked easily.

But yes Triumvirate was meant to be split between two tanks, and soloing it can be rough on the inexperienced, especially if they do not have a wealth of equipment. There really is not a downside to splitting the damage though so it's kind of surprising to hear someone react that way
