    Leveling a Second Job

So after playing almost a full year almost full time as a SMN, I've decided I'd like to try out NIN. I've tried messing around with leveling a few other classes before, but never really felt like I enjoyed them, and kind of gave up with them. So far (as of only level 13 at the time of this post) I've really enjoyed ROG and would really like to push to make NIN my first alternate level 50 job.

    So, to my question:

When leveling an alternate job, what tends to be the most effective way to level? To date, I've been doing Leve after Leve in order to level ROG, to be able to take part in the class quests as they become available. I figure once I hit 16, I'll be able to break into the world of Dungeon grinding. I'm also every now and then working on my hunting log. So what I'd like to know is, should I just continue in this way, unlocking NIN along the way, or is there a more effective way to level a second job?

Any help is appreciated as always!

That's basically it. Be sure to use your low level and guildhest roulettes.

I use my hunting log, Hests (once for the bonus for 1st time as that class), and low level roulette for that nice daily bonus since you already have a lvl 50 there is a good xp boost for leveling other classes

If you don't have someone that can tank or heal who we lovingly refer to as "queue bitch" (and is usually me), queueing for dungeons and roulettes while doing FATEs is the best way to handle it. I usually recommend people to queue for the 2 highest dungeons they can run after they use their roulette bonus as you still get good XP from a dungeon that is a little under your level and queueing for 2 dungeons at once tends to give you a faster queue.

This only applies if you're not in a hurry to level, but my personal favorite way to level is to exclusively use the low level roulette once per day. This gets you a nice amount of experience in a short amount of play time.

Although this may not be something you'll want to do with ROG/NIN, you may want to consider it in the future.

I recently found the time to pick up Rogue as well (which was the last battle class i could level) and i can tell you that it took me roughly 1 ½ hour to level from 22 to 25 through dungeons (2x Halatali and 1x Toto-rak without fully clearing the dungeons, just by attacking the packs you find along the way). If you craft your own gear, it takes about 2 dungeon runs within a similar level range to fully spiritbond them, so you can generate some materia with it as well. (^_~ )

Also, if you use Food, you can get an additional 3% experience bonus. It doesn’t have to be anything special. You can simply bring along something as simple as La Noscean Oranges, which will only give you that 3% Experience Bonus but no stats.

And also, like Moqi above me mentioned, the Challenge Log also gives a good amount of Experience as well as the Hunting Log.

Stay in dungeons or in queue for dungeons as much as possible, as there's far more XP there than anywhere else. Start with your daily roulette. While in queue look for your hunting log targets and also pick up any FATEs you find along the way. Once you finish all your hunting log enemies, switch to picking up levequests (or regular sidequests if you have any left). If you have time for another dungeon after finishing your Roulette one, just select the top few dungeons that your level allows and queue for those. You'll also end up completing several challenge log entries in the course of these other activities, but you can check it to see if there are additional ones you can complete as well. With the 50% XP buff you get just for having a higher level class, leveling another can go pretty fast, especially through the early levels.
