Can we talk about the Helicoprion?

I have caught every fish in this game except 1. I have spent months working on this task. I have gotten my ironworks rod, and my lucis rod. I have spent over 2 months on this one fish and it is becoming a frustrating nightmare. I've dealt with bad RNG and have felt the frustration of these hard to catch fish. But Helicoprion is a whole other beast. Not because the fish is hard to catch, but because the weather requirements are so rare, it makes finding a window to attempt this insane.

I know many have it, and great for you, you were lucky, and maybe this is my white whale. However when I'm on 8+ hours a day after work and still am lucky to see a window once a week, I think there is something wrong. How is anyone with less of a play schedule supposed to be able to get this thing without insane luck? This a quest fish and it is one of if not the hardest fish in the game. When I'm sitting in a line of 7-10 people all saying they have been trying for 1-2+ months like I have, I feel like it needs to be toned down just a bit.

I have - its commonly found in Southern Thanalan, and has a reddish-orange weather icon on the minimap (it also gives an environmental effect in the zone in the form of shimmering heat haze that makes everything just look blistering hot.) Either way, I've definitely seen this weather in the game.

Requirement seems to be for the weather to go from overcast or fog into heatwave.
Have to pay attention to the skywatchers or monitor weather tracking sites.

I don't have many big fishes under my belt (as lucis came out while I was just starting to fish for ironworks), but always keeping tabs on weather tracking sites is definitely the way to go for big fishes for their insane requirements.

I have the weather tracker open on my laptop next to me 100% of the time i play.

It probably helps you if you know that Clouds (Overcast) works as well for the prior weather transition into Heat Waves. It's NOT limited to Fog -> Heat Waves. The combination is more common than some people may think.

Just bad experience then, Would say the Clear/Sunshine -> Blizzard in Coerthas is far more rare. And I have my personal vendetta of Fog in Eastern La Noscea and a certain crab. But my fishing log is at 100% right now and I refuse to get the Lucis because just the fact that SE added it is insulting.

Don't feel bad, I've been trying unsuccessfully to catch a canavan for four months or whatever it is at this point. I'm going to bypass the IW rod at this rate, since I only need to haul up six more clams for the Lucis rod.
