Healers doing damage

It can be fantastic to DPS as a healer, I WHM on my character when I want to get into Crystal Tower runs or 4-man dungeons quickly. on the trash mobs just before the bosses in Syrcus especially, most people gather the mobs and burn them. I typically Stoneskin2 everyone before the pull, slap a divine seal medica 2 on everyone and join in with Holy spamming. It speeds up the kills as I am doing about 600DMG per holy to approx 7 mobs.

Then if I have another good healer in the boss fights I Stone2 spam until about half MP.

If you can read fights well and know what is coming then you can be very effective as a DPS on healing jobs.

Keep aero and aero 2 up before spamming stone 2. In terms of single target potency, aero 2>aero>stone 2.

And yeah holy spam on the trash levels is really good. One time in st I had a friend check for me (I'm on PS4) and on the first trash level I did about 400 dps, and the second one (higher amount of targets with all those little bugs) I did about 700. I'd say that's pretty significant.

Your FC are a bunch of casuals. I guess they are the same tanks that do 50 DPS in a boss and think their tanking is brutal because they haven't lost aggro on a single target.

Here's the truth TC. If you can bring "40" onto the table as opposed to a healer just fulfilling their healing duties and bringing "30", there's absolutely no reason you shouldn't do so.

Why are you dpsing as a healer? Because I'm skilled enough to know in which phases or gaps of the boss I can DPS and in which ones I can't. Some people can't do it (bads) and others simply can't be bothered (lazyness). It's all about being optimal and bringing the most out of your job.

Basically ignore your FC.

Only problem with this "it's ok if nobody dies" rhetoric that keeps popping up is that it's not always the healer's fault when people die.

Learn the content you can DPS in. If someone dies to avoidable mechanics while you should have been fine to DPS, that's not your fault. It's certainly good to react quickly enough to save people from themselves, but it's not your fault if you don't.

The amount of these threads are endless. It's a game, if you can play and have fun while still doing your job as a healer then do whatever you want. There will always be individuals out there that have their own opinions, they are sadly smothering potential with their misdirected opinions.

And the problem with that crazy rhetoric that keeps popping up is that's appropriate to single-player games. Here, when you mess around at the detriment to others, those others are real people and not NPC's like in single player games.

Some of you seem to think I don't know my way around dealing damage as a healer, might be some misunderstanding from my post, all I wanted was to prove my FC wrong , anyway, I'd just like to share my very typical rotation for any new healer who's interested in starting to deal damage inbetween heals:

Divine Seal, Regen, (Medica II if there's AoE damage), Cleric Stance, Aero II, Aero, Fluid Aura, Divine Presence, Stone II until Regen/Medica II run out or someone needs healing. Hope this helps any new healers ^^

This is main the point that determines if your healer has the opportunity to DPS or not. If you fire off stoneskin II, pay attention to which people lose SS first. It should only be the tanks. If you can get through the first set of trash mobs with all the DPS's still with SS on, then you can safely DPS, as they are making an effort to avoid damage.
