"A better enmity system where you have to actually worry about enmity and decide not to use certain skills." Well tanks are supposed to drop into offensive stance when they have either gained enough agro. Requires some judgement and knowledge of the fight. They can also opt to swap a lot of their excess vit for str too, which creates stricter cooldown usage and makes dropping defiance/shield oath that bit more risky. This has to be done in a manner that doesn't prevent the healer from dpsing also. Though I admit, if all a tank cares for is ilvl, vitality and holding agro and never dropping their defence stance then yh they must lead a dull life.

I can see what u mean about the classes being simplistic, but when you are placed in a hard encounter, and want to push things to the limit, it then becomes a test to perform well despite the mechanics you have to deal with.

There's absolutely no difference to the rotation of a Paladin whether in Sword Oath or Shield Oath. We have one and only one combo.

That said, the strength of the Paladin is in its simplicity. Anyone who wants a more "interesting" tank job should play WAR. It's just how the jobs are designed.

I actually like how the game is simple and linear. Things like skill trees or more mechanics to do things in a different way just give an illusion of choice.(Majority of people like the path of least resistance.) But hey, if SE can make the game more interesting, I'm all for it.

Going sword oath at times gives one a lot more to think about, than hitting 1,2,3. And agreed on war xD

If a tank ever did this while I am healing, especially a Warrior, I will cancel all casting, dismiss my fairy, and let him die just a little faster.

Me thinks you didn't exactly think through this comment entirely.

Why do you think tanks can pull 350-400 dps? They certainly don't do it in shield oath/defiance. And in the same parses, scholars can be seen to be still doing good dps. Seen a recent t10 parse with pld doing 400+, sch doing 400+ and war doing like 350. Sure it's probably the greatest example of overplay ever but there it is.

To me, all that sounds like you want to go back to play FF11 instead, as Paladin and/or Corsair, to the old days with lv 75 cap but with the current jobs like Geomancer.

We'll get more abilities with the expansion and probably all of the jobs/classes will become a bit more complicated. (Or it happens so that we can leave some skills behind as the new ones replaces them. Who knows.) What it comes to playing with our feet, it's true and mostly can't be anything else, since battle arenas are big, dungeon maps, all maps are huge. You need your feet/mount/teleport to get from A to B. Interaction with objects still happens with your character's hand or hands, even during battle, but you just have to get there before you can do it.

Your examples are very negative by the way and ff14 is still one game only (until Manderville Gold Saucer comes ;P ) but for some reason you separate footwork from abilities/spells. You need to learn to be good at both and when that happens, the next stage is how well you work with the rest of the players, unless you're soloing. The classes and game is as good as you are and like was said already, all of them are versatile if played correctly and are not boring whack-a-mole types. Correct rotations, your position vs. enemy vs. other players, distance especially as a ranged/caster, timing of your abilities and spells to boost max out of something like Divine Seal or Manawall, queue your defensive abilities on a big pull ect. ect. WHILE dodging/following fight mechanics makes it interesting. If that all is still boring to you, you need to at least triple task!

    (edit: character limitation!)

I'm always curious at people who claim you hit only a few buttons to DPS, they must be the ones I always hear about getting kicked for having too low of a DPS. I've never used a parser but it's pretty easy to tell when someone is just coasting. If you cannot be arsed to actually attempt to improve your DPS by working multiple rotations to keep up buffs and ensure the mobs are debuffed as well then you are the problem, this is also coming from a veteran FFXI player. Oh sure some things like Blue Mage and Puppetmaster had quite a bit of depth but the majority of it was get TP to 100 and spam your best Weaponskill till it died for years and years.

For me dificult of the jobs goes this way

DPS: MNK (positioning- dodge) > SMN (pay attention to DoT timers, egi managment, batlle res and mp) > DRG (alternate combos- dodge) > BRD (CD optimzation - songs at the righ time) > NIN (mundras are prolly the only thing- dodge easier than other melees cuz the extra speed) > BLM (simple rotation - pay attention to insta stuff)

Tank War (more combos- bad CDs) > PLD (single combo - great CDs)

Heal: Sch (fairy managment) > WHM (Mp managment)
