They're their own benefit.
Crafting and Gathering are just more dimensions to the game with their own progression and endgames. They're not essential, since there are plenty of ways to make money and you can always buy anything that's crafted.
Check it out, if you find it fun go with it. If you don't, well... nothing really lost.
Two level 50's in 15 days is very impressive! Are you chained to the desk or something? **Blink twice for help me**
Haha nice work. As said above its completely optional. Everything right now can be obtained through Gil I think..
Honestly if you quest and focus on quest getting to 50 its pretty fast... specially the 2nd character... not sure if i should focus on my archer or in a crafting gathering skill
Archer has a good cross class skill called Quelling Strikes which is a level 34 action and it reduces enmity you generate for a breif time
I think he meant all crafted items can be obtained through gil. So far as I'm aware, I believe that's true (though I haven't gotten to endgame crafting yet —my crafts are between 26 and 40— so there could be some I'm not aware of). Basically, the players who enjoy crafting make and sell stuff to those who don't enjoy it. So you can get the stuff either way, it's just a matter of whether you get it by making it or by buying it from someone who did.
If you're on the purchasing side of that transaction, not only can it cost a lot of gil in some cases (depending on what you want), but you're dependent on a crafter actually having what you want available for sale at the time you want to buy it.
If you're a crafter on the supply side of that transaction, you have to deal with getting expensive or hard to obtain ingredients to make something that may or may not end up worth more than you put into it. And that's after requiring a major time commitment to level all the crafting classes (as they're too inter-connected to get much out of leveling just one or two of them).
So, to the OP's original questions, do you need it? No. But should you look more into it? I'd think yes.
Try it out. Unlock a crafting class or two and level it up to around level 15 or so. That's not far enough to have all the skills available, of course, but you'll have enough of them to understand basically how crafting works, which is enough to decide whether it's something you're going to enjoy or not. If you enjoy it, pick up the rest of the crafting classes and start leveling them as well. If you don't enjoy it, then drop it and go back to your combat classes.
2 class lvl 50 within 15 days... so jealous.
I'm stuck with work and hardly can play now.
Already sub for 120 days... You are my Lalafel mentor now sensei.![]()
Crafting and gathering are optional, in fact you don't really need to get them if you already have friends in game who can do that. However, the benefit of having them for yourself is profit first thing, there are a lot of stuff that you can gather and make all day for gils. If you are already on your relic questline, you will need crafted items to advance at one point of that quest so if you can make them you save alot of money for yourself and won't have to bother someone else to do it. If you like a different kind of challenge beside the usual raid/dungeons, you can go for it.![]()
