You can use the item itself anywhere. It will give you a message along the lines of "You can now place a retainer in your yard." After that, it works just like outdoor furniture.

There are also a couple new pieces of outdoor furniture to go with your retainer to make it look official-ish. My FC uses the retainer counter as a bar. ^^

Ah nice I will look into that. So how many retainers can be place by each member of the fc?
