Please help me decide which class to play :)

    Hi all

I have never had a more difficult time deciding a class than i am at the moment.
In other games i have always played a healer, and my idea was to have a change and to play a tank, but...

My worries are that a gladiator/paladin would be too slow to level. I know i could level through dungeons, but i would like to grind and quest too. Thing is on a positive note, they seem the easier to play of the tanks with a standard sword and shield.

Marauder/warrior which was my initial choice seems like it would be OK to level and is a tank, but i got put off when i keep reading that they are more squishy and more desired as an off tank.

Conjurer would see me go back to what i'm used too, which i'm fine with, but i also get the impression that they are slow to level when not dungeoning.

I don't want to sit here deciding any more and i don't want to level all 3 first, i just want to get on with it, so has anyone got ideas/advice about what I've wrote above.

    Thanks a lot all

All classes/jobs level at about the same pace. You have multiple ways to level and dungeons generally are the highest exp givers. Though Challange log and fates and other stuff works now as well. And really. You can have all jobs on a single character. Just start and switch if you feel like you need a different experience.

Tanks and healers have fast queue times while DPS will spend a lot of their dead queue time running around chasing fates and stuff so up to you there.

Well, there's nothing stoping you from leveling multiple classes at the same time. I had two classes hit fifty around the same time and it required little extra grinding beyond doing a dungeon roulette daily.

I'd say however, in my experience, levelling a Gladiator hasn't seem much slower than my archer. Conjurer is I think though I levelled mine mostly through dungeons.

Tank jobs would be the easiest to level, people always look for tanks, not to mention the instant DF que, second would be healer, third DPS.

Try them all since you can play every class (battle, crafting, and gathering) on the same character.
That said, dont let the people push you away from a Warrior if thats what you want. As I healer, I actually rather a warrior tank then a paladin as I feel warriors are less squishy then paladins are...yes paladins have more defensive cds then warriors but that only helps if they 1) use them, 2) dont use them stupidly.

Leveling a tank is far from slow, it's just the opposite. Dungeon ques are always fast for tanks as less people want to play them. Tanks come in two flavors in this game: Paladin is all about mitigating as much damage as possible while Warrior is about having tons of HP, abilities that offer some self healing, and dishing out some damage in return. Paladin is the easier one to play, where as Warrior takes more nuance, therefore has more margin for error.

The great thing is you can try both and see which one you like better. Just know that neither really come into their own until after 40 (you could argue 30 for Warrior), and then again at 50.

Let's slow down for a minute. Forget about leveling "speed"...

What do you want out of a class/job?

Do you want to feel powerful and make things die as fast as possible? DPS (And there are several flavors here.)
Do you want to protect the party, and lead and set the pace? Tank is the way to go.
Still protecting the party--keeping them vertical and getting them back on their feet when the worst happens? Healer, naturally.

There are nuances and flavors to each of these and maybe one of those takes priority over the categories I've listed above. But back to the question:

What do you want out of your class/job?

Hi all, sorry for late replies, been out all day

Thanks a bunch for the input, the thing is, i want to tank and heal lol which of course i cant. I think i'm going to go with my original choice, Marauder.

I'm not interested in speed leveling or anything, its just i don't want to have to level by dungeons only while feeling inefficient.

And usually i would test them all, but i want to make sure that my main class is the one that i do main story on.

    thanks again
