Fastest way to 50? Also class / gil questions...

    Evening guys,

So I was just wondering what is the fastest way to level 50? Should I just do the main story line first and not focus on anything else? I'm currently level 26 and feel like it's just another grinding game. But I guess that comes with every MMO, haha.

Also a question about classes. Since I'm currently leveling as a Gladiator should I focus on any other skills? I dabbled in the Marauder class since I heard someone say it goes well with the Gladiator class. I'm only level 5 in that class atm. Should I level that at all? When should I start leveling that class? I've heard that skills from that class are very useful for Gladiators.

Finally comes my question about money. I currently have about 25k gil right now and honestly I've never even really spent money on anything besides tellying places. Should I even worry about money right now? Should I be buying gear / supplies on the market? Or should I just use gear I get from quests and what not?

Sorry for all the question but this is the first MMO I've played in years. Last one I played was RuneScape and I played that for a solid 10 years, So my mind keeps referring back to RuneScape when it comes to this game... I think I put like 5k hours into RS, haha. Actually is it too late for me to be joining this game? Feels like maybe I've missed the hype train and should move onto a new MMO?

    Any help is appreciated!!

The fastest leveling is by running lots of dungeons. You'll also need to follow the main scenario quest line in order to unlock those dungeons (and a bunch of other features). And there are a few sidequests that unlock additional dungeons as well. Here's a wiki page that shows how various features are unlocked. Do your main scenario, the sidequests that unlock optional dungeons, and sidequests that unlock whichever other features you care about.

As a gladiator (soon to be paladin) you have a big advantage in that as a tank you can nearly always get into whatever dungeon you want immediately, as there are plenty of damage dealers just waiting for tanks and healers to join them. You'll also get extra bonuses for running Duty Roulette since tank most often gets the "Adventurer in Need" bonus.

You'll see a lot of other ways to earn XP recommended if you read the forums much, (FATEs, levequests, Hunting Log, Challenge Log), but part of that is in order to give damage dealers who may have to wait in queue a while to run dungeons other ways to advance in the meantime. As a tank, you won't have that problem, so these other ways of leveling will be mainly just for variety when you're tired of just quests and dungeon runs. Though they do help you level, dungeon runs do so faster.

By the time you hit 30 as GLD, you'll want to take a detour to level Conjurer up to 15, as that's needed in order to unlock your Paladin job. Both CNJ and MRD can contribute cross-class skills to PLD, but even though CNJ is the required one (at least up to 15), MRD tends to have the more useful skills for you to cross-class, and the majority of them can be aquired by level 8. (You'll want to level MRD to 26 eventually for Mercy Stroke, certainly by the time you reach endgame content, but it's a bit more flexible regarding when you choose to do that part.)

If you use "Edit Post" you can get around the forum's 1000 character limit on posts. For some reason it only checks that rule when initially submitting a post and not when editing one, so that's how to get around the rule when you want to make longer posts.

If you take the gear rewards from quests, that will do you reasonably well while leveling up. Plus if you're running lots of dungeons you can get better gear as drops.

If you want to, you could splurge on a High Quality weapon if you haven't gotten a good dropped one for a while (just because weapon damage is your most important stat), and jewelry for some reason seems to rarely make it into either dungeon chests or quest rewards, so that may be worth updating from the market boards at times. But basically, as long as your drops and/or quest rewards are keeping up with your level, it's mostly all optional.

Oh, another time you might start wanting to buy gear is if your leveling outpaces your quest progress. If you're catching up on main scenario quests that are well below your current level, it may be better to take the coin rewards and buy on-level gear.

The protect spell you get from conjurer is a nice little boost to defense while doing solo content. Also, you may want to train your chocobo as a healer when you unlock that to help keep you standing while doing solo content.
