The universal bonus points was in 1.0. Luckily Yoshida let it die with 2.0.

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”
― Ernest Hemingway
- Healers will sometimes go VIT to make up HP-thresholds in fights (Ours did when SCoB Savage came out, and also during T13 progression).
- On that token, our BLM actually went VIT for a while during T13 to not be one-shotted on megaflares. Same for our DRG during T10 progression (Before M.Def fix).
- Some WHM's will eventually make the swap between full MND to PIE.
- BLM's also sometimes use the points to make up racial PIE difference.
- Tanks constantly swap between VIT and STR to accommodate between Survival and more DPS.
Just because you haven't found a use to it, doesn't mean others haven't. Removing options is never a good thing, and this allocated points allow you to swap stats at a moments notice. If you think that's useless you haven't really put thought into it.
Agreed! If you make the points universal, then aren't you encouraging people to play only one role to get the most out of their points? I wouldn't want all my points I put into WHM become trash the minute I swap to PLD nor would I want to stretch myself thin spreading points over multiple classes or having to respec said points every time.
In FFXI, I maxed STR, AGI, and DEX since I mainly played COR and NIN. When I'm needed to do a 3-hour links hell event as WHM, I have no bonus to MND.
Useless for most classes save for in a few situations; a very helpful (now) easily adjusted modifier for others. Helps meet extra-fire rotation w/o SCH for BLM, using 1-4 (5?) Piety depending on race. Allows for tanks to prioritize damage vs. health. Can be useful for dps if they have no hybrid accessories in order to meet raid damage survival needs.
They "accomplish" 2-3 little things from the point of view of a mmo player who has to efficiently burn through the grind in front of him, as explained by others, but, game design-wise, they're pointless since they can be reset at will.
The devs didn't have any goal when they added this (or, more accurately, when they decided to keep it from v1), it's just because it's "rpg-like".
How about instead of messing with the Attribute Bonus allotments we ask for upgrad-able PVE abilities & traits - a system similar to PVP abilities & traits.
The only thing they need to consider is when 2 jobs branch out of one class. Currently it's only SCH/SMN. It's annoying to swap attributes all the time.
If anything, they should make secondary stats more demanding. This way we can play around more or swap for different encounters. It then would be nice to have more places to get GC seals from (roulette f.e). Doing fates just to get seals is annoying if you'd swap a lot.
