Dude, the only thing any house owner needs to do is arse to her/his PC/console/whatever, login, say hello in the house, and logout. If you cannot do that in 3 months...
housing is scarce and can be a commitment. I personally think people should lose their house after 3 months minimum. If a person can't be bothered to not log in within that 3 month then shey should lose the plot and have all belonging placed into the house salvager.
I do not agree with repossession.
Many people take planned and unplanned extended breaks from mmos for a variety of reasons.
I always end up taking breaks from a game when it starts to become too tedious , if rl gets crazy, or if I end up having new goals in other games that I play and pay for regularly.
I certainly expect my purchases to still be there when I return no matter how long I am away for Oo.
In my case I never end a sub, a 2 week break to a year break, I continue to support the game by paying for a sub continuously. Don't assume that just because some are not about means they are not still paying each month.
Even for those that do end subs temporarily, I don't agree with snatching away what they bought because of SE's refusal to upgrade or expand .
Our focus (as always) should be directed to SE, not towards each other, and pressure them to expand and upgrade to meet the demands they knew would be there in the first place.
Its quite unacceptable that people are still without a home due to the games limitations, that is more in need of a change imo then a change to how they deal with players who may be away for a time.
Place the forum pressure on actually fixing the core problem by offering needed space, not bandaid yet another unacceptable limitation by trying to take away something from another.

♥ MORE HIGH HEELS + INSTANCED HOUSING! ♥!
agree with misty 100% since my work occasionally takes me over seas for sometimes up to 3 months i still continue to sub even tho im unable to play if i returned to see somethin i worked my butt off gettin money for removed cause real life kept me from loggin in = instant cancel my sub uninstall the game n throw the disk in the bin lol
its SE's responsibility to keep up with supply n demand not confiscate somethin off some1 just cause some1 else wants it
so u know whats gonna pop up in ur life for the next 6 months do you??? really u have ur days planned perfectly everyday for 6 months without somethin unexpected happening??? some things are uncontrollable recently had a friends mother pass away which ive known since i was 5 years old so took time of work n ff14 to spend time with her friends n family 4 states away from where i live.. so how would i know she was going to pass?? time travel into the future so i can plan my 6 months in advance to please players like you?? so yeah u cant plan for everything things happen u got no control over so deal with it
I really don't like this idea, it would unfairly target those whom have unexpected absences or give further reason for those whom have not to return to the game. I think rather than punish players whom bought into the housing system early, they should make an alternate housing zone that is purely an instance of an individual house for all players to have access to. It wouldn't matter that way if people can't log on for a while then and will do away with this nonsense of the neighborhood limitations.
Yes, as a lot of people pointed out in the Balmung Housing Issue thread, people who aren't paying for their subscription shouldn't have claim over a limited content such as housing. They've "worked hard" to get the house, yes, but the same goes for all those who have farmed the money and are now sitting on it waiting for plots to open, while wards become ghost towns.
Maybe a form of refund is due, but wards should definitely get a reset feature after 1-2 months of not being used. And I'm sorry for those players who quit every other month because they "run out of content" and wait for a new patch to return and still want their house to be there, but it doesn't matter how hard you worked for it: if you don't use it, you don't need it.
And I say this as a house owner myself. I'd totally understand if my plot were reseted if my FC and I didn't use it every month like we do. Much like how they implemented an AFK-player-kick feature back when congestion was an issue, there is now a congestion of empty houses, and I feel they should be "kicked".
Wait, what? I thought there was only a week or two limit on how long you could leave a plot without a building!! Now I'm going to have to do some post diving to find that tidbit of info...
My thought:
If someone purchased a land plot and doesn't build a house within a month, give them a mog mail notice and refund their gil paid (perhaps minus some small tax).
I would disagree that wards are ghost towns. People don't tend to hang out at a house unless it's a very active FC. In regards to people unable to buy a home... life isn't fair sometimes. Maybe they should have started playing sooner or done more to accumulate the money faster as the person before him did in order to buy early. Leave Gil buyers out of this (we'll never fix this...) but for the legit players, you might as well delete their in game character too as it's taking up storage space.
If GTA V and other similar games can maintain your data for years then FFXIV can too. I don't know much about the framework of SE's servers but if it were at all possible they should close down the weaker, quieter servers and reallocate those resources to the larger more active ones. Just my .02
