    Housing - Inactive Plot Clearing

I am not talking about taking away houses from inactive players. There is a small plot of land I've been keeping an eye on for over 6 months and the plot is literally empty - i.e. no house, nothing to "enjoy." As far as I know, this player hasn't been on since the plot was bought, or if he was, he has done absolutely nothing because his lodestone profile has remained unchanged for months.

Is there any good reason to let an inactive player to squat on unused land for so long when there's still demand for housing and server capacity is limited?

I'm fully in support of introducing some sort of system for reclaiming plots from inactive players. Unfortunately there is a small vocal group that thinks it is unfair for them to lose a plot if they don't play for months on end. I've even been accused of being selfish for advocating the forced relinquishing of inactive plots despite these squatters actually being the selfish ones...

SquareEnix tried to implement something like this a while back and people screamed about it so I don't know what it will take for them to actually do the right thing and add it anyway. I know some would say they should be adding more capacity instead but then that would leave most of us living in ghost neighborhoods full of mostly abandoned houses. I'd rather have actual neighbors thanks!

Then why would you buy a house knowing you cannot play for months at a time? Wouldn't it be more fair to have land for someone who can play more often?

Most other MMO's i've played have a repossession system for situations like this, all that happens is the plot goes back up for sale and all your stuff that was inside can be reclaimed at an npc, along with a voucher to get another plot. Of course those MMO's had a rent system for housing, so it wasn't really repossession due to inactivity, but due to running out of rent on the plot.

I would fully support this though, if I was gone for months on end, I'd prefer my plot actually be used by someone that plays the game, as long as I was able to obtain all my stuff and not have to pay full price for another plot when/if I came back.

What about unplanned absences? There are a plethora of things that can come up. Even then, I am one of these people that spent over 50m for a plot, that I saved up for over a six month period. I stared at the marketboard for hours. Are you saying all of that work and dedication is invalidated because of having to step away for a month or two or even five or six? There were plenty of people that could have worked harder than me and earned gil faster than me and bought out the plot if it was really a priority to them. It was very much a priority to me.

Also, vouchers do not work in this situation, if they are just for another plot. Then in that case if you return /you/ have to try to get another house from someone who was inactive. Which could lock you out for months or years.

THE SOLUTION HERE IS TO BUY MORE SERVERS FOR MORE WARDS. Or even dynamic wards.

Other games can do it. Even much older games can do it. FFXIV can do it.

Dude, the only thing any house owner needs to do is arse to her/his PC/console/whatever, login, say hello in the house, and logout. If you cannot do that in 3 months...

Maybe allow an active player to buy the house from an inactive one, and the inactive one gets the gil(or some of it). Maybe give the inactive player a voucher for the same size of land or smaller, with soemthing similiar to the Calamity Salvager to get thier housing stuff back.

The reason people where complaining was because the time was set to a Month of inactivity, which was absolutely ridiculous. It had nothing to do with it being a bad idea or whatever. I'd think 6 months should be plenty of time to cover for any "misshaps".
