can someone help me understand big fishing?

Okay, I just spent five hours trying to get the titanic sawfish. I have my gathering at 329. I have seen posts with people getting it with under 300 gathering. What I don't understand is why is it that I finally get a shot at catching it, I get a message telling me that I don't have a high enough gathering rating. (I know the weather has to be clear and it has to be between 9 am and 3 pm. I did all of that plus the moochin crap.)

Because what you ACTUALLY hooked was a Pirate's Bane, requiring 370+ gathering and the Fisher's Intuition buff from catching 5 Wahoos. The Titanic Sawfish is just exceedingly rare.

To have more chances at Titanic Sawfish instead of Pirate's Bane you have to disable the Fisher's Intuition each time you get it.

no it isnt...its a common dbl mooch, I nearly always get 1-2 per window

When I was fishing for Titanic Sawfish, I would almost always fish up Silver Sharks. Virtually without fail.

I don't know what kind of fortune you have, but there is no way the Titanic Sawfish is "common" by any definition of the word.

It took me two weeks almost non-stop to catch that fish. Some people mentioned they've tried it for months and this was before the green big fish. Compared to the Titanic Sawfish, almost all of the green big fish were less of a head ache time wise thanks to the small time frames they were catch-able. Anomalocaris was the ultimate time sink for me and the 24/7 fish outside of The Matriarch doesn't even deserve a mention~

But, RNG god likes some, dislikes some, and we can't do anything about it!

I really, seriously doubt you get 1-2 every window. That'd be the best moneymaker around if it were that common. Several hundred thousand gil an hour? Sheesh, you'd think I'd see folks up there fishing constantly!

the window isnt open anytime and why should I catch more than 1 or 2 at a time? It takes time to even sell a single one of them, catching more makes no sense if no buyer is available

20% chance to catch a goby -> 50% chance to have a wahoo -> 20% chance its hq -> 50% chance for titanic saw

sums up to 1% catchrate per cast, which is easy manageable if you start the window with a HQ wahoo
