The one problem I can see with the high ilvl synch ceiling is that every now and then you're going to have a party with a fresh lvl50 tank and ilvl-synched dpses. Which is going to make aggro maintenance a chore for both parts (tank desperately trying to keep the mobs and dps tempering their frustration over having to wait with spells/hits when they hit orange markers on all mobs). Or a new healer desperately trying to keep up with the size of the pulls the 'experienced' players think they should be able to handle.

If anything, have the ilvl-synch relative to the party members. Say "synch to 10 ilvls above the average ilvl of the lowest party member at time of entrance" or something. That would fix issues of low-geared tank + high-geared dps, and would give first-runners a taste of what the dungeon was closer to the beginning.
Sure, people could troll that and put on fake gear to just about hit the ilvl requirement, and then change once inside the dungeon, but then again people can troll almost anything -- since you can change gear even to below ilvl requirement once inside, you can just switch to unglamoured event gear and go trololol through it all.

I think I said this before but one run I did in SV we lost a player so while we were waiting for another I just happen to actually look around. The room we were in had a dead frozen dragon on the floor that appeared to have crashed through the roof. I was like hmm, never noticed this before as we always just sped by. I just thought it was a pile of debris. I pointed it out to the group and they all said the same thing, never noticed it before. Just though it was funny as always rushing through, wonder how much more I never noticed.

I really don't see the point for the ilvl sync. For the most part, it seems that people that are running these older dungeons are just doing so for things like the relic quest. If that is the only reason that he/she is doing that shouldn't they have the ability to join in full force and get it done as quick as possible?

A thought hit me while reading through the thread. What if they nixed the level synch on gear so it was handled like it originally was for the level capped events in FFXI? You would zone in and any gear over the level cap was taken off your character. Your stats would still get synched...but you were stripped of the gear that was over the cap (in the scope of this game, they would have to capture the level of your weapon and not let you in if it was overpowered for the instance though). We had no choice but to carry level appropriate gear or we had to run them with empty slots.

Wouldn't that create a crap-storm of complaints on the forums... hehehe.

No, the dungeons are fine as they are. There is no further need to tamper with ilvl sync pre-expansion.

With regards to wanting a lower sync so the dungeons are more "challenging", I think it's important to keep in mind that the dungeons that sync to ilvl 110 are older dungeons that had been challenging at one point, but just aren't anymore.

I figure most players have run these into the ground, and making the sync lower wouldn't add any challenge or fun, it would just make the grind even more repetitive, where it actually plays out pretty smoothly now. The dungeons would have to be completely remade to get what you want, and at that point it's better to make new dungeons instead, which is what I think square enix realized.

Neither do I. I don't know about the other people, but I said maybe one way to do it would be to increase the rewards. If they increased rewards in proportion to the estimated increase amount of time, then there is no loss in farming. They could even make the increase larger than the increase in time it takes to do the dungeon. Farming dungeons, then, becomes more rewarding, and they're still no longer a faceroll.

Is it something they'd do? Probably not. But it is one possible solution to having a fresh, pointless tank who not only can't hold hate, but doesn't even have to.

Regarding the amount of time that dungeons take, I actually think they design dungeons to be a bit too big. For the future, I'd prefer that they designed dungeons that would take closer to 10-15 minutes. Make them smaller, and maybe cut out the middle boss and make it optional. And since one of your concerns is dungeons you've already done suddenly taking longer, they could design future dungeons with an ilvl sync in place already, the same way 1-50 dungeons all have a level sync in place when you first unlock them.

As an aside, I could go on a huge rant on how I feel about playing for rewards vs. playing to play, but I'll leave it there for now.

Don't think a lot of people would actually bother with the relic at all then.... Imagine you'd spend 30-40 mins on one dungeon, and it doesn't drop? that wouldl iterally be HOURS of work to get just one (while it still is atm).

Item level sync is what pushes me away from doing certain content, to be honest. I have no desire to gimp myself on dungeons that have no real benefit to me. If their goal is to get more people to run outdated content, this is surely not the way to do it. Remove the level sync, throw some allied seals in, and we'll talk.

Keeping old content relevant is going to be harder and harder with the new expansion coming out. When constantly having to release content in a dungeon grinder like this it becomes hard to meet the demand. I assume that's why we have so many hard modes and recycled mobs. Keeping the old dungeons relevant for new players means giving incentive to the already geared players to replay it. Tomes is a decent way but giving less tomes to the older content means it's less likely that people run it. So with the new content around the corner will the oldest dungeons become worthless? Tomes, weeklies, and roulette?

Any before I digress any further I don't mind having the current ilevel cap. The wipe mechanics are there to an extent and people don't feel like they could solo the dungeon. Wouldn't mind it being roughly i100....
