Players need to learn not to be impatient. Even when I speedrun dungeons on my tank, I make sure that everyone else is ready especially the healer. Otherwise, the attempts are going to be flops. A good tank communicates with their party, letting their group know what pulls they plan to do, but more importantly ask if they are prepared for it too. This communication has served me well when speedrunning Dzemael Darkhold, "Mythflox Speedstop," and the Wanderer's Palace (Hard). A tank who doesn't bother with that and fails to keep composure is asking for a wipe and will usually be responsible for the majority of them. If the tank makes sure that the party is ready but the healer can't keep up it's on the healer. If the mobs in the pull don't die quick enough and the tank and healer are exhausted, that is on the DPS.

But anyway, iLv. syncs do reinstate the challenge that was once lost to overgearing, but the limit is still too high to make it feel that way. On the other hand, I love to push my limits and see what I can do, or get away with, when (grossly) overgeared which provides another aspect of fun for me. Both sides of having or abolishing a level sync have convincing arguments so it is hard to pick one over the other. If you ask me, I feel that players have the option to challenge themselves but in order to do that you must have a group of like-minded players who share those thoughts. Otherwise, do what the Romans do when in Rome.

I can understand why the item level syncs are put in place, as the Duty Finder can pair up players with a glaring disparity of gear. On the other hand, even geared players do not know how to play their roles to their full effectiveness so the item level sync is mostly to control players who know what they're doing over the terribads who mash buttons and keybinds expecting things they want to achieve happen. I have no strong feelings one way or the other about the item level sync we currently have.
