Capes are by FAR the coolest piece of equipment in any fantasy game.

I am very sad FFXIV does not have capes.

And I'm not talking about fake capes that don't actually have a model attached to them.

Well...a lot of them DO...but they either look like cardboard, or beach towels that haven't been washed in a long, long time.
The problem with capes is they're a pain to model, clip like hell, and also contribute a lot to lag without giving much back.
Think about it: Many peoples' systems and the PS3 can't even handle the "robe and hair blowing in the wind" effect...imagine how bad it would be if there was ANOTHER wibbly wobbly item on top of that?
Basically, there's a reason why Lightning's outfit has the scarf tucked in.

Don't most MMOs not have capes?

Not sure about the quanity, but WoW, GW1/2, Tera, SWTOR*, and Aion have capes. At least when I think of bigger name games those come to mind (even though some flopped lol).

I would like to see capes but right away give players the option to emperor (or toggle) it out because its just an aesthetic (that you can attach a stat to) and or make it a third accessory slot which I think could be pretty fun. Say in the slot you could put capes, cloaks, trophies (bits of monster dangling for your awesomeness), bobbles like pocket watch or chain, perhaps even sheathes since SE hasn't added them to the weapons themselves. Edit: Including backpacks, like Bluevann suggested below.~

I'd like capes, but also many other objects that would require a back slot (maybe equippable only when shields/2handed weapons are hidden or automatically hiding them?), such as the freaking backpack I've been asking for all this time!
