Frankly getting the Alexandrite, tedious as it is, isn't the big problem for the Novus step. What they need to do is eliminate the RNG aspect of melding the materia. It should never have been there to begin with. "You can customise your stats with Novus! Oh, but we forget to say that only the richest amongst you will be able to do the best melds because who doesn't love losing 500k gil per failed meld of a tier IV materia? You know, for casuals!"

Would be fixed with 3.0, I guess. If materia V come ingame and level 60 gear would have a 90% chance to turn into materia IV and a 10% chance to turn into materia V

Did you really do 500 fates or did it just feel like it? People tend to think they're doing more than they really are.

I do fates in between waiting for DF. I average 20-30 per day, depending on wait times. The first week after the patch I saw the increased drop rate, and it was about 10%. Since the 1st patch after that, and those that followed, I have been doing exactly the same thing, same amount of fates, and I have seen 3 drop. Lets halve my estimation, and say I only did 250 in those weeks - that is still a 1% drop rate. In fact, it is looking precisely like the old drop rate.

I hope you are right as prices for deter crit and acc are way over priced (Ultros 500k tops). And again we can spirit bond but you need the crafting class and the money for it too.

I totaly agree. I'm at the alex step as well, only 31/75 so far. I'm doing it casualy because I already have a better weapon. To be honest, I was only doing my PLD relic for the novus skin, maybe nexus if I find the motivation. I won't even have a good novus because I don't have money to afford DET IV, and no, I'm not doing the braindead spiritbounding in Urth. I play for fun, and actualy, I find alex a bit more fun than books because I can get maps from Ex roulette or just by playing the game with my friends and spending memos. And I can equip the weapon I want. Something I couldn't do with books.

I feel like if you're grinding FATEs for Alexandrite, you're doing it wrong... Daily roulette, tomes, and allied seals would be much faster.
