Wat
That's a terrible opener. It does its job of initial hate on the Tomahawk, then it rapidly begins to be worse and worse than an actual optimized opener.
Warrior is a whole lot stronger than Paladin in regards to DPS. When played correctly, the defensive cooldowns missing from a paladin can be made up for, at least for the most part. However, the one thing a warrior can't make up for is Hallowed Ground. As long as a fight doesn't come to this (and it shouldn't) then there is no problem. Another thing it loses out on is blocking, but a fight shouldn't come down to the RNG system, not if you're good and have a good party. That being said, if you suck as a warrior, you're going to suck a whole lot more than a Paladin that sucks just as much. So, don't suck.
Instead of insulting you, I decided to make an image explaining why you're wrong and how you can stop being that way:

Well back on topic, I got warrior to 34. I'm enjoying it a lot (at least, enjoying it as much as you can without really having all your skills)
I'm excited to hit my 5 level intervals to keep getting new warrior abilities. Even more excited as I get closer to 50.
Who knows if I'll stick with it after 50 but it's lookin good so far.
Oh. And being a MRD with raging strikes, invigorate, internal release and berserk, spamming op, is so hilarious.
That's one thing I'll miss since I got my job crystal.
@OP
I feel where you are coming from. PLD was, and is still in my heart of hearts...lol, my main. He is the one I gear up first. He is the one I take into new content. Becuase he is safe and reliable in my eyes. I got bored and wanted to DPS, so I chose BLM, so he is my DPS main, slowly being overtaken by NIN(with BRD creeping in the shadows). At any rate. I decided, why not try WAR.
HOLY $#!t, this job is a flippin blast. Lot's of different things to do here. WAR is not about OVERPOWER ONRY!! It is about soaking up that dmg son! I recomment you play that bad boy and level him up. But take your time though. Learn the in and outs. Learn how to ride the red line, how to come back from it. You like defensive cooldowns, I do to. It's different on war.
IMO PLD is a lot of proactive skills/buffs/cd's, where as WAR is both to an extent. You can be proactive with Foresight and Convelesence, but I like the reactive aspect of the job. IB, Bloodbath, etc. Stacking these many skill that WAR has is insanely fun. That and the fact that once you are comfortable with content you can start to experiment more. Swapping STR in, not being in defiance etc.
Long story short. Give it a go and enjoy the ride. It is a a good thing to have the option of two tanks.
That's precisely how I feel. I'm so much more comfortable on paladin for progression because it's reliable and safe. Defensive buffs being off the GCD is a huge plus when you're just learning a fight. With that said, I have been having a lot of fun playing warrior lately. In fact, my 3rd zodiac is going to be Ragnarok. ^^

Even if you find at the end of that road that you don't like the Job, the experience of being the shoes of a Warrior will be invaluable to you as a fellow tank. But it sounds like you're having fun and getting engaged, so there seems to be no worries there.
Aye I'm getting close to level 40 now and I've been having a blast since unlocking IB at 35.
And now that I got storms path my rotation is even more interesting.
I hate to say it but I've been enjoying leveling this warrior more than I enjoy tanking on my pld at level 50.
Super stoked to hit 50, got a full set of gear even the upgraded soldiery axe just waiting, staring at me.
