There is zero time choosing which ward to cast (I assume that's what you mean by spell). I know which clusters i'm going after before I even strike the node. I mean if you are happy with your method, by all means keep on doing it. However, the bottom line is most people want whatever is most efficient and that would be using a ward when gathering clusters. From a logical standpoint, there is zero reason to use anything else.

Usually i decide to get clusters when i want to craft smth and see that i haven't enough of them to do it. This means that i need to gather 1 or 2 types of clusters +15 of each is enough in most cases. So, i swithch to min/btn (depends on daytime) and jump to mordhona. After jump i already have ~500 gp and more than 550 when i reach it if it is already avail. If I need 2 nodes - gp has enough time to regenerate between two gathers.

When I gather clusters I stay in the zone and craft in between gathering. 400-450 GP takes 30 seconds, it normally takes me less time to change from DoH to DoL and get to the node. 400-550 takes 90 seconds, that's an extra minute of waiting for zero added benefit.
