I support a shield and Monk weapons being invisible, more than that is just silly.

I suspect the idea is that the shield is being lobbed and rebounding back to gladiator after striking its target, Captain America style.

Yes, Gladiators are just that skilled. There are so many crazy moves the different classes in this game have, what's one more?
