Yeah I'm the OP. I guess I should have been a little more clearer. My bad lol.
You can only avoid the buying tax, you cannot avoid the selling tax. If you sell something on the market board for 100 gil you will only get 95 gil for that item, regardless of where it's sold or bought from. Your unreasonable price will be losing 5% on each item you sell (so twice on that one item to get the trash item sold and the real item sold in your example) which can get VERY expensive, depending on just how unreasonable that price is. I strongly recommend the free FC chest method or a very trustworthy friend. How to exchange items between alts
- make the receiving character's retainer sell 1 trash at unreasonable price (how much, see below)
- buy that trash with the sending character
- sell the items you want transfer, with unreasonable price
- go back the receiving character, and buy them with the Gil you got from previous sell
- done
If you take care the market the retainer is, you also avoid fees.
If someone else buy your things, you also make a profit. Win-win situation.
Personally, I still use my buddy pass account from my 1.0 days as a mule account. There was no mail and no FC chest system back then (only linkshells and direct trades and market wards). It's expensive now that I have to actually pay for both accounts (I started it when there were no subscription fees then just couldn't let them go when that stopped) and I still can't mail things directly between mules on the same account, but it's safe and easy-ish and it works.
I'd really love account wide item storage/transfer options though >_<
Unfortunately the most effective way I've found is to own your own FC and house and just have them both added to it so you can trade freely Via the company chest. Most small FCs with plots on my server go for 5-6m and that doesn't take long to make. Few weeks at most, even without crafting.
the reason you can't send things to alts isn't a purposeful thing, it was a result of two things that they just decided to roll with because it's simply not relevant to the majority of players:
1) You can only send mail to people on your friends list, as a means to avoid RMT spam clogging the mail system.
2) You can't make friend requests to offline players, to avoid the same thing as #1 as well as just general abuse.
They could change it, but there's just simply not that much incentive on their end to do so.
And I fully understand those reasons for having those restrictions... But surely there is some sort of code inside a character that tells SE which subscriber the character belongs to? There should be some way to utilize that common subscriber ID tag to add them to the list of possible mail recipients.
Or to allow some sort of account-wide storage facility - to avoid "OMG EXTRA INVENTORY!", limit it to 25 spaces or something. Enough to make transfers and store a few commonly used items (clear prisms + prism crafting mats, anyone? or potions/food?), but not enough to clog up the servers /too/ much with extra storage space. Heck, even just five or ten slots would go a long way to alleviate middle-man frustrations ^^;
You are getting it wrong.
In fact, the stability of the entire game economy is build on the fact that nobody is able to flood the market with thousands of items.
Crafting 1000 items is not really difficult. If everybody would put 1000 pcs on the market, the market would collapse.
Moreover, the more storage space, the less you would sell. That would greatly slow down the economy. Like in the real world in 'times of crisis', everybody would keep all resources till he needs them, so no one would sell.
That's the reason why the retainer space is so limited, and why you cannot easy sell using your alts.
By this, independently of how good you are crafting, your amount of items that you are selling is strictly restricted - and everybody gets the chance to sell.
Actually, the choice QE made is very well balanced. The market is very active. The prices are moving quickly and everybody can find items to sell at good sell/production cost ration when doing a bit of research.
Theres no restriction on selling numerous items over alts at all. GC bank to trade to alts, pass to a friend, friend trades to alts. Wheres the limitations there? There is none. Thats possible 20x4 per char. 8 chars. overall 640 slots. There is nothing stopping players getting items to those alts.
There are 2 easy ways to bypass the ability to mail to an alt, so no reasons whatsover to keep enforcing the no mail to alts.
Also, it IS a little by choice.the reason you can't send things to alts isn't a purposeful thing, it was a result of two things that they just decided to roll with because it's simply not relevant to the majority of players:
1) You can only send mail to people on your friends list, as a means to avoid RMT spam clogging the mail system.
2) You can't make friend requests to offline players, to avoid the same thing as #1 as well as just general abuse.
They could change it, but there's just simply not that much incentive on their end to do so.
If we could easily mail items to alts, then we'd need less storage on our characters...which would be buying additional retainers would be less enticing=SE makes less money.
So yeah, what you said...but also, they make more money by not allowing you to mail items between account characters.
I guess it all will be solved, just automatically adding your alt in the friend list of your other characters in same server.
But I guess main reason is avoid RMT easily transfer all Gil to a main hub.

Agreed op, its mind blowing in a modern mmo that they punish players for their fear of RMT.
The endless tells I receive hourly for months on end, the maxed out bl, surely points out that this limitation is not solving anything.
I don't mind their current idea of "must be on fl in order to mail"....although at times I would have loved to have mailed some gear to a new player who looks like they were struggling, I can imagine if this was removed we would not only have endless tells from rmt but mails as well so that restriction actually is helping us. But not to be able to mail to ones OWN characters is ridiculous.
They allow us to have 8 characters/server!....we should without hesitation, be able to easily, freely, mail to ones own account ....period.
Rethink the "logic" of that please SE...and remove this restriction.
