Are there non positional DPS melee classes?

Title basically covers it. Playing with gf so it's matchmade parties in dungeons and 3/4 of the time we're with some tank that runs around needlessly and I swear at times it feels like I'm losing half of my effectiveness from trying to grab my flank/rear crit bonuses

The only melee dps that is unbound to positional requirements for standard rotation is rogue/ninja, but even then if you aren't in front of or behind an enemy you lose certain perks to either Suiton+Sneak Attack or Suiton+Trick Attack.

However, dragoon also had it's positional requirements loosened not that long ago, most you'd have to deal with is standing to the rear for +50 initial impact potency on Chaos Thrust, and standing to the flank of an enemy for the increased potency to Ring of Thorns from Heavy Thrust.

Ninja is the closest to non poistional requirements. It really only has trick attack that you should be at rear for. Sadly, that's the way it is.

Thanks guys. I don't hate the mechanic itself, just gets a little frustrating when I see all the non critical attacks.

Also, if I'm missing anything and tanks have positional boosts I regret this, but from the little I did of marauder on my original character I didn't see anything.

Tanks don't have any positional requirements or bonuses for any attacks. Usually they're just moving out of aoe and are sloppy about it, but sometimes you get people who, for one reason or another, don't seem to like the way the enemies have arranged themselves or are fiddling with standing in an aesthetically pleasing spot, or some other frivolous thing. The only exceptions, typically, are large pulls with mobs that frequently perform area attacks. Usually tanks will have to run around constantly to avoid taking way too much damage and sometimes to hit all the mobs with their own aoe since large groups move around a lot anyway. In those situations you just have to deal with it.

I wouldnt think tanks would have positionals given they almost always must face the enemy unless they are off tank

Actually if u think about it, if u don't care about positional potency bonus all jobs and classes have no positional reqs.

Also if it's any consolation tanks like that are bad and idk, I haven't seen one in a long time. There's going to be movement for some things of course, but "needless spinning" tanks seem to mostly have died out. Thankfully.

I detect spinning top tank syndrome to be the cause. As a tank it is relatively easy to avoid changing a mobs position during an AOE. The only time you might run into this is with massive trash pulls where the tank needs to move out of multiple AOEs that are somewhat overlapping. But in that case hopefully a BLM and WHM rip through those mobs so fast it doesn't matter. Single target boss fights, this shouldn't be an issue though. And if you are missing positional a due to unneeded tank movement that's not an issue with your playing... Though it does increase frustration.
