AK Hardmode First Boss...??

The last 2 days I got this as my daily ... no biggie, however, I get the tether and I run behind a pillar that is not damaged or hurt or stood behind before and it hits it once and destroys it and I get killed afterwards. Am I doing something wrong?

No cleaves on it, no aoe's, no previous tether person behind it ... Just gets 1 shot by the tether while everyone else runs behind one and is fine ... Does the game hate me?

Are you sure it's not damaged? If you stand close or behind a pillar before you are tethered, the boss can damage the statue thus not having enough health to save you from the tethers.

My bets are on someone getting close to a statue and then he gets Targeted by Hall of Sorrow, making the statue get hit by almost all its HP by the AoE. People still need to learn that during that fight you have to stay in the middle close to the boss.

I am pretty sure that it wasn't damage either time, as I made sure to zoom out the second time and check the HP before it got 1 shot. I will be sure to recheck the next time I am in that fight. Thank you ^.^!
