I was doing great but now I feel like crap

I've abandoned a party during a dungeon raid 3 times today

on the third time I was asked "why were tanking lessons needed this far into the game?" I've only been playing for a week but I shot up to lv.32 Paladin already, I'm keeping the enemies attention just fine so I don't really know what I'm doing wrong.

I'm sorry but there was no problem mentioned.....what's going wrong?

Did they mention anything you could work on ?

    Are you dying?

    Agro being stolen ?

Maybe you just had bad crowds , those happen.

Dying too much, like 7-8 times before the halfway point even though I did what they said and told them it was my first time through that dungeon. When all else fails insult the new player right?

It sounds more like a Healing issue if you're dying that much. Granted I don't know what dungeon you were running, but usually new Healers will give tanks shit if they take too much damage. Like wise it's your job to tell the Healer to step their shit up in terms of Healing if you're always sitting dangerously low in HP.

Can't comment in your playing, so I'll skip straight to gear (had a look see at your lodestone ^^) as you could have the perfect play style and gear is just holding you back~

You really should have some 'tanking' accessories equipped. Ones with vitality and parry stats. Your gear could do with some upgrading as well as some of it is 10 levels below what you are now Try to stay away from the gear that is shared with LNC/DRG as they aren't optimal for your class ^^

If you're dying too much it could be a couple of things. Firstly it's the healer's responsibility to keep you (and all others) alive. This could be tough if you're not dodging telegraphed skills/ spells or your gear is dated. Defensive cool downs shouldn't be specifically needed at any one point, though they're of course helpful. You could be pulling too much, but that's rarely an issue before 50. Typically people pull a single group at a time and I'll assume you weren't running through grabbing multiples. Aside from keeping hate tanks need to keep mobs still (mostly for MNKs at this point, but for DRG and NIN as well), but failing to do that generally just slows down DPS.

I'd have to go with either your gear not being good enough or your healer not being good enough as the most likely problems.

A lot things factor into new tanks ''deaths'' and failures into dungeons

Dying is 50/50 on you and the healer and I actually put it at 75% healer seeing as you're the newbie.

1.)Take it slow, if you're pulling a mob just handle that mob , its a new dungeon for you and you don't know hard the impending attacks are going to hit so take it slow.

2.)Use your Defensive Cool Downs, this is pretty much tanking 101 right here. Healers jobs are to keep you alive but you also have to help them out by increasing your defensive stats throughout the dungeon by the use of abilities Rampart and Foresight should be two on hand at lvl 32 also using Convalescence helps out healers as well.

3.)Make sure you are geared appropriate. I forgot just about how much you should have as its been awhile but if your health even as a PLD isn't almost 200-400 hp above the next player then something is wrong. Check your iLVL and be sure you aren't wondering into a LV.32 dungeon under-geared

4.)Make sure you've used your attribute points in VIT, I know by this time I was all over the place placing DEX on my DRG and what not...Make sure you're allocating all your points into the right slot.

Brayflox longstop is also a big tank and healer check, pretty much the first one of the game. it is in this dungeon that enemeies start to hit a LOT harder, and that healers need to start being more on their toes.

the first few times into it, you die a lot, and you learn a lot. good news is, though, that that is pretty much the biggest tank check until aurum vale, IMO, at lvl 47-49.
