I think that a new queue system is in order as well. These 'hidden' 8v8v8 ques along with random ques into multiple matches is kiling the game. We NEED to be able to see EXACTLY how many players are waiting in EACH GC so we know what to wait for.. we need open bins for each type of match as well. I think 8v8v8 and 72 should be split and que should be TRANSPARENT... the random queue thing is not good for PVP. Without transparency you have way to many dropouts that give up after X minutes b/c they have NO clue how many people they're waiting for or how long the que might last. It should be setup something like this..... This should appear in your Duty finder, Duty Status.

People are spending over and hour waiting for an 8v8v8 to fill while others are instant quing the 72 man matches b/c the system is god awful broken for pvp.

It's fun, but the queues are really weird now.
It made me hate PvP in this game.
Glad to see im not onlyone disliking new mode, nothing against TDM itself but it killed secure if you dont count odd 24mans now and then. I really tried to enjoy slaughter but it gets just too boring after 2-3 matches, i guess its time to stop for a while and continue when new ranks etc comes.
Slaughter really just seems like something they jumbled together to hold us over until the next big thing comes along. I'm fine with it being what it is based on its namesake. But you can kind of tell they just threw some big ideas together without any real thought on the details of actual PVP. Healer LB's are boring. Tank LB's are especially boring. Melees are very vulnerable. There is no such thing as balance in this mode.
It's not better than secure for sure. And since its inception the overall accessibility of it all has completely tanked. Queues are godawful again, something that could easily be remedied with the removal of GC restrictions (or at least allowing people to merc).
Again, they seem to have just thrown this all together without thought of the consequences. Playing healers and tanks with boring LB's doesn't make people want to play them again. Casters having ridiculous advantages makes for a really strange dynamic.
That said, this should come as no surprise. The devs have shown time and time again an unwillingness to inject basic common sense into PVP. FFXIV's PVP has immense potential, but it hardly gets the attention it deserves and as a result the people who actually enjoy or could enjoy pvp are often turned away. You can see that now with slaughter and beyond some of the immediate fixes the devs seem to be insistent that their way is the only way at the cost of people's interest (which is deteriorating). SE really needs to get the memo that you create interest by letting people actually play the game.
Some LB stuff i'd change
- Current healer LB is really unfun. Make it chainspell like in ffxi and give healers 10 seconds to cast spells with a .5 GCD. You could either keep your pt alive or jump in the middle of a party and spam holy until out of MP.
- Tank LB is pretty awful too. Maybe give them a 10s immunity or a 10s chainspell-like LB where their GCD falls to .5 GCD. Would be extremely fun to throw up all your defensive buffs and have 10 straight seconds of pure GCD spam where you could take out multiple players.
- Melee LB is fine but playing melee can be quite difficult and puts a lot of pressure on your healers. 10s of immunity/movespeed buff would be pretty nice.
- Caster LB seems fine in its current state. Definitely needed nerf from its previous version.
Overall FFXIV PVP has a slew of issues that need fixing. But if we're talking about slaughter, improving LB's would be a start. Removing GC restrictions would be the biggest things and let really let us have free flowing queues, but I don't see them getting past their absurd notion of the lore being important (it's not).

Slaughter = Cometeors
I've been enjoying Slaughter. It seems to require less big-picture thinking than Secure, which is a bummer, but it's also kind of relaxing only having to worry about your immediate surroundings and not the goings on of an entire multifaceted map. Strangely enough, it has also made healing much easier for me, since healers seem to be focus targeted less in Slaughter, so I've been spending much of my time on my White Mage. That's been a nice change of pace.
But I'm most defiantly biased here, the Flames on my Data Group have been doing amazing in Slaughter. It's hard to dislike something when my team wins it so frequently.
A true paladin... will sheathe his sword.
