I would think that even coordinated melee groups would have less kills and a lot more deaths, lol.

Less kills? Yes. A lot more deaths? Not so much. Not if the team is coordinated. It's a matter of your healers knowing when your tanks and Melee are diving in to back up with LBs and heals.
