I remember in Star Wars Galaxies the devs appointed real players to have the power to silence (not ban) the RMT sellers in the airports. One of my friends was one, and I thought it worked because the spam wasn't as bad as it was before they implemented this change. This has to be the worst game though for RMT spam. I just came back after a very long break and now I just find myself putting myself on busy, which sucks cause I want to meet new people on this server

SE really needs to do something about this. 6+ RMT tells per minute is ridiculous.

RMT tells have never been this bad before, I am getting like 8 tells per 2minutes now, almost my entire FC has now set /busy status just to avoid RMT spamm, but that means we can't send eachother any tells. SE really needs to do something this is ridiculous.

I really, REALLY hope the ability to select who your character can receive /tells from gets implemented. It REALLY doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make it so we can tick off checkboxes that we ONLY want to get tells from people on our friend list/FC list/linkshells. That's get rid of this *entirely*, since it's hard for me to imagine Jjfsfsfwjd Qfffrrrrrrrrrr getting invited to many free companies, even if he does have that ever so friendly intro.

Rather, it'll get rid of the *annoyance* entirely. Will these skidmarks upon the community go away? No, and sadly neither will the pathetic scrubs that buy gil and keep them here, but at least they won't get to personally annoy us all incessantly either with endless chimes or forcing us to turn off /tells outright.

This!Just let me choose who I get tells from,so I don't have to be /busy all the time. Also, let me turn off friend invites without having to be /busy.If we had these options the rmts could spam all day long and no one that didn't want to hear from them would ever have to.

I noticed the increase in RMT tells as well. Earlier I got half a dozen in 5 minutes, all from different names and websites. It's getting rediculous!
I'm in favor of a /friendtell option so that, if you don't like/use /tell to talk with strangers (and for Twelve sake, I'm glad nobody has given me a {Thank you} over a /tell yet like in FFXI), you can turn the /tell log filter off.
Hells, I suggested this earlier ingame.

Have yet to encounter RMT giving me a friend invite though...

This is unacceptable... and insulting considering that we're paying customers who ourselves must adhere to a strict ToS agreement our ourselves get banned). Within a minute of logging on I'm getting RMT tells from multiple sources, and have to go to Busy mode which means I'm unable to receive communication from anybody. Using a linkshell for it all just isn't viable because not everyone I know, knows each other, we're all full on Linkshells intended for specific purposes, and the last thing I feel like I should ask my friends in game to do is drop a linkshell so they can join one for some random social network centered around myself I assemble to allow us to communicate while in busy mode so we don't get interrupted by 3 RMT spams a minute.

The best fix is just making a privacy setting in the options box wherein only people on your Free Company/Friend's List can send you a tell. It would encourage more people to actually befriend others (who actually want to be friends) and there is NO WAY its too complicated to implement.

Can we please get a dev. response on what they are actually doing to counter this intrusive act the RMT have implemented?

Let's face it. We, as a community, bought gil. In turn, RMTs sees "cha-ching", so they advertise more. Can't really blame the buyers, though. I have BRD Nexus, and easily bought Materia off the MB with the gil I made from Dungeons back in the day. Now, Savage Might II are more expensive (60k almost), and many don't want to Spiritbond to get Materia, so gil is probably bought to buy the Materia.

We jack prices up to get 10 million gil in our pocket to say we have nothing to buy lol... We sell high, people can't afford it, so a DRG's Zodiac has Skill Speed and Parry on it as it's cheaper.

In my opinion, the RMTs are simply flooding where people buy.

One solution that worked well on a game I played long ago (can't recall atm) the solution to spamming was, in addition to a timer (no more than 1 /tell /msg every 3-5 seconds), and the blacklisting was community driven.

so if a character was blacklisted by players for sending unwanted tells, once that player reached a threshold set against the server population ratio, that player was automatically muted from /tells /shouts /msg for a period of 8, 12 or 24 hours (based on the number of blacklists submitted)

And it was tied to the account, if their alts performed the same actions and received another blacklist mute, then all the characters tied to that account were muted for that cumulative period of time.

This seemed to have an eventual effect where the gold sellers were quickly running out of alts to spam with and forcing them to wait to advertise, or purchase another copy of the game, which soon made it UNPROFITABLE, and they eventually faded away.
