Let's face it. We, as a community, bought gil. In turn, RMTs sees "cha-ching", so they advertise more. Can't really blame the buyers, though. I have BRD Nexus, and easily bought Materia off the MB with the gil I made from Dungeons back in the day. Now, Savage Might II are more expensive (60k almost), and many don't want to Spiritbond to get Materia, so gil is probably bought to buy the Materia.

We jack prices up to get 10 million gil in our pocket to say we have nothing to buy lol... We sell high, people can't afford it, so a DRG's Zodiac has Skill Speed and Parry on it as it's cheaper.

In my opinion, the RMTs are simply flooding where people buy.

One solution that worked well on a game I played long ago (can't recall atm) the solution to spamming was, in addition to a timer (no more than 1 /tell /msg every 3-5 seconds), and the blacklisting was community driven.

so if a character was blacklisted by players for sending unwanted tells, once that player reached a threshold set against the server population ratio, that player was automatically muted from /tells /shouts /msg for a period of 8, 12 or 24 hours (based on the number of blacklists submitted)

And it was tied to the account, if their alts performed the same actions and received another blacklist mute, then all the characters tied to that account were muted for that cumulative period of time.

This seemed to have an eventual effect where the gold sellers were quickly running out of alts to spam with and forcing them to wait to advertise, or purchase another copy of the game, which soon made it UNPROFITABLE, and they eventually faded away.

Currently getting 1 tell per minute all morning now since 4am... now it's 11am still going. One of these gil sellers were advertising $900 worth of gil? Seriously? For them to be advertising $900 of gil that means people must be buying the crap out of gil on my server. No wonder the spam is ridiculous. How can so many gamers be paying for gil like this? I'm so ***** disgusted right now and irritated cuz I need to keep /busy off cuz I'm looking for a melee DPS for my static and need /tells open...

I've actually noticed something. On ragnarok I don't get rmt /tells, maybe 1 in a day. But as soon as I log on to my alt on Gilgamesh rmt spam begins!

Please guys, either toughen up /tell limit for rmt or easier reporting than we have now, like right click report.
