Block the dollar sign.
But then I wouldn't be able to tell one of my jokes!
a Veteran player and a new adventurer walks into the Quicksand.
The veteran turns to the new player, and says "Greetings! welcome to Eorzea!"
The new player turns to the veteran, and whispers in /tell chat:
"Buy Gold! 1000k for 2$! go to iwanttohackyouraccount.com for details!"

I'm totally for this, except the bolded part :P I've been approached by two VERY cool people with that exact same /t :P but yes..... other than that, I agree 100% I've gotten to the point where I just turned the /t chime off, because it was going off so fast, Mist started to have a whole new beat to it, with a chime going off every 3sCan't they create filter that recognize phrases like "Hello my friend. 5 min delivery. we have the cheapest giL,come on,my friend " like if the string of text contains key words like "delivery" "gil" "cheap" "handwork" or a few words in a certain order just block that from going out?
They've done it with the /shouts and /yells. Time to do it with the /tells.
I've been getting messages I put in the first post for over a week. same phrases. But nothing is blocked. They need to update their filter multiple times a day. the amount of spam is getting to the point of pure frustration.
I receive so many that my chat log is never in a position that doesn't have a gil seller tell advert in it, and I report and do blacklisting every single one. I feel defeated and abandoned by SE. I received 5 before I could even move my character one step as I logged in this morning.
We really need to have implemented the following tools:
- Auto report spam (command or right click action)
- Separate blacklist for spam with higher limit, automatically apply reported names to this list
- The ability for players to create their own /tell filters.
- Allow players the option to receive messages only from a white list

I always play with busy status on, because:
- My friends are all in the LS i have, already.
- Jsdddf Jwwwd has too much good offers to tell me about.
- It efficiently prevents me from being trolled by people opening the "trade menu" when you teleport from MD (yeah Moogle server is a place where people still do that).
- You get rid of the ready checks during the WOD.
Only pros and no cons. Most of the community being agressive / toxic on Moogle anyways i dont worry about the importance of the /tells i miss.

Yeah this is really getting crazy and out of hand. The spam just keeps getting worse and worse, though I can't remember if I even noticed it in FFXI.
"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

I would like to be able to make my own chat filters.
I'm sure I could do a better job of filtering this crap.
Couldn't they make it so you can't send people tells until a certain level? Like maybe 10 or 15?
I mean, it wouldn't stop it completely, but it would make it tons more difficult for them to constantly create more characters and spam us. And we wouldn't have to have friendly phrases like "hello friend" added to the chat filter.

XI didn't have as much as XIV does, however, SE did also put in a filter on XI that blocked mostly all the spam, and if people were using windower there was another filter on that. Between both of them, the RMT spam in XI was pretty much never heard. It something that they need to be doing now. Everyday I'm finding myself putting up busy mode because I've gotten tired of blocking them all and then 2 weeks later cleaning out my blacklist only to do it all over again.
I'm fairly convinced SE is just never going to fix this issue. There are no excuses... This is 2015. You can block tell spam like every other game on the market right now.
