Is it just me or there's heavy lag at a certain point

However, at a certain point of the day, like 7 pm cst/8 pm est, I've been getting random lag spikes and just horrible lag in general. I just want to know if it's my internet, or it's a general server problem >.<

Short version: Your traffic to FFXIV servers is probably going through a node of a backbone provider called Level3. Level3 does not have sufficient capacity for peak hours.

The term "rubberbanding" comes to mind when I try to describe it, though it's less rubberbanding and more start/stopping. Everyone around me will suddenly stop for a few seconds, then start back up again, with people or mobs around me having moved however far away during my freeze time. It's very offputting and also can be a bit dangerous during dungeon runs, especially for WoD on certain bosses like Angra >_>

If you're getting the annoying latency that's common with level nodes (actions and attacks are severely delayed), there is really nothing you can do. Some people have success with WTFast but it's hit or miss because it highly depends on your local network infrastructure (comes with a free trial so might be worth giving it a shot). If you're noticing the game freezing and then rapidly "catching up," (rubberbanding) then you are probably suffering from dropped packets. If packets are being lost somewhere on the network, again not much you can do. If your router/modem is dropping packets then you will have to look at your settings and/or hardware to determine what's causing it.

Also, keep in mind, it was free login weekend which adds to the latency/lag issues. Should clear up this week.

A lot of times it is due to routing issues as others say. It has always been hit or miss for me when not using some type of VPN service like WTFast. I wish I didn't have to pay for something like that but it's either that or randomly lose the ability to play the game / bow out of raid nights on a fairly consistent basis.

Just to see if that's the problem next time you experience issues DL wtfast and the trial and see if it fixes it. If it doesn't it could be other issues.
