I'm not getting how your fine with this as a PvP'er. I've seen other people in these forums make the same statement and it still confuses me. You want to be stronger because you have a bigger time investment then your opponent, I've come from other games (some that were PvP focus and some that were not focused on PvP) and pretty much the majority of them were not gear focused yet some of them still had a ranking system. It seems like you don't want a fair fight where individual skill separates who wins and who loses but you want a fight where if you played longer (regardless of the amount of skill you have) you should have the advantage over the enemy that has lesser gear (even if the enemy is of equal skill to your own or might even be more skilled and therefore would have won on even terms).

Personally I don't get this as someone who has PvP'ed in pretty much all online games I've come across, the only thing a time investment granted me was more experience with the map, character and class skills. If I won that generally meant I was more skilled then the other player and if I lost then I would continue to improve by learning over time or from my enemies. My player progression was that if I was destroyed by a certain player 2 weeks ago and fought them again and won, I progressed as a PvP'er. Like a sport the games had a set of rules and limitations, what decided the outcome was the individual players not if someone had a better tennis racket or something.

Is gear progression in PvP the "new" thing these days or is FFXIV PvP really that bland and easy that the only difference between two opponents in a fight in this game is their gear? If someone could tell me why gear progression in PvP is actually important to warrant the segregation of players and making it harder for new players to get into FFXIV's PvP because right now it's confusing as hell and only hurts the PvP population.
